figured I would start my own post here… just to keep people informed about what i see and hear up in the Osceola-Taylors falls area…..

only yesterday the river was not yet even at normal flow… now over night its up past its normal flow mark and its clouding up…. not muddy yet…. but at this rate by tommorrow its likely to be bank full or higher…… this should be pushing the fish into current breaks where they are concentrated… Ive not been out yet… and Im not sure when I will be…. but I would guess that pretty soon fishing should be picking up… if it hasnt already!……. but SOMEONE turn off that faucet!! enough rain already!!

I still have not got back over to fronconia since two weeks ago. I had to launch the boat over the ice then but it was a nice day anyways. Is it still three weeks to opener on the croix? I will have to try to get back over there again next week.

I was looking for some river crappie info on the net the other night but had very little luck so i thought i would throw out the question. Where are the river crappies this time of year? I have had some luck on them up at rock island on the steep drops. And have found a few in close slough on a deep drop. You,ll have no chance of getting in there with a big boat. and have found a few in osceolia at the end of the park. I have never found to many numbers of them at any one spot in the spring but i am new to chasing them in the spring. Do they relate to warm water like lake crappies? I,ll keep posting as i continue my search. I no the mother load is out there some where.

you just covered everyplace I would think to try…. Im sure if you could find warm water it would be the trigger for SOMETHING!! afterall theres a lot of species in that there river.. and all of them would like it to warm up a bit…… but pretty much everything in the river is the same temp as long as water is flowing through it… you would have to find some kind of backwater lake that had a section that did NOT have water flowing through it… pretty tough I think….. I just think spring crappies are a tough deal on that stretch… maybe try some whites? they gotta be comin on pretty soon…..

I’ve never tried spring crappies north of Stillwater and I know right now they’re still holding close to the wintering holes. With the warm air and sunshine to warm the water some, I expect that they will soon be heading toward their shallower spots. I’ve had my best luck in 15′ or less and anywhere the current is significantly slowed. Saw one boat at the LakeFront launch this morning so someone’s checking some stuff out!

I did see some debris in the waters today though………..gotta get rid of that stuff!

the water has come up greatly since yesterday and the croix is now out of its banks at Osceola…… I would guess that fishing is not fairing well now…… as its just too high…. and still climbing!

The water was near to going over the parking lot for the Ocseola park… the rest of the park is already underwater… hard to say if its done coming up or not… but ANY more and they will close the ramp…..

If we can get it to stop raining here for a bit, I think most of the snow run-off is done already. Last I saw there was talk of a rain system coming on Tuesday that might linger a while…………I hope they change that forcast until the water levels off first!

drove by the Osceola ramp this afternoon… it was closed.. water has went over the road… not over the parking lot yet.. but the ramp is closed for now… it does not appear to be rising much now however… if we dont get more rain it should start to drop soon and the ramp will reopen….
