Hey gang, here’s a repo from what I’ve seen and heard…08/05/04 Lower St. Croix fishing is best described as “mixed bag” where many river species are biting. Flathead catfish are active and caught incidentally by walleye anglers. Walleyes and saugers remain deep in the day and the 22 to 30 foot range is where these gamefish are being caught – the catch rate for walleye especially has dropped from the last few weeks, though saugers are still hitting. Smallmouth are active in deep rock (6-12 feet of water) and tube jigs are taking fish. Sheepsheads are hitting very well (yippee). Crappies and sunfish are also active and are caught under bobbers set half way (for sunfish use crawlers and for crappies use minnows). White Bass are strangely absent, though they should show up in force soon. The river is stable and is 675.48 feet above sea level in Stillwater, Minnesota. Water temperature is 74.
Keep catchin’
