Me and some of my buddies wanna change things up a bit and try a little catfishin’. We’ve been goin at the walleyes and saugers all summer and we watched an InFisherman catfishing movie last night so it made us wanna try to do a little of that. Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere to try and catch a couple this weekend. Have caught one or two small ones (unintentionally) up by the train bridge. Any suggestions would be great.

This is time of the year when the cats hit the best. If fishing the holy cross ( St. Croix ) it would be better to fish the north end past the boomsite.. Several spots between the Boom site and the high bridge before arcola sand bar. Look for significant depth changes 6 ft to 25ft or more. Look for downed trees in an area, Cats like to sit in the deep and come out at night normally after midnight and up till sunrise. The will leave those deep holes and go hunting at night, and get to the shallower water so be patient. You can find better Cattin on Ole Miss from the Wakota Bridge down to Hastings, look for the same depth changes and anchor just outside the main channel,(watch out for the barge traffic, they will sneak up on you if you aren’t paying attention.) Cats will come from quite a long way to find out what you have on on your hook, cut bait works best for the flats and channels.. Entering cat contest in August, called “10 bags” tournament.. Hope to win, couple years caught an 18 lb flat on mississippi and got a 24 lb cat on the croix.. Good luck in your hunt for your 10 bags trophy.
