We reluctantly decided to fish the St. Croix after being skunked on the opener. We fish from noon to 7 and tried long lining Lindy rigs at our first location. We fished at the famous community hole. The wind made it almost impossible to keep the bait at the right depths but did manage to catch 4 walleyes and 2 white bass. At our second spot, we decided to drop anchor. We pitched live bait but there was no preference between fatheads and night crawlers. The water temperature was 47 degrees and we fished on a steep break from 10-35 feet. We managed to catch 9 walleyes between 16 to 18 inches at the second spot. We released 3 fish over 20. I hope the fishing will get better with water levels dropping and higher temperatures. Good Luck!
