The rain is beating on the roof and the forecast is for rain and more rain. I plunked the Battleship in the river yesterday – 1st one in at the marina. Water is high and cold (43 degrees) and forecast looks like a return to No Wake by next Thursday right before the Opener. Looks like we will be having another Putt-Putt opener – you can at least troll from spot to spot I guess. Here is the forecast:

Perfect!!!! That should help keep the crowds down. Do you think there will be any law out there to enforce this? I usually don’t start seeing the 24 hour a day presence of the law until around Memorial Day.

Hey Suzuki, you probably won’t have to worry about any tournament guys fishing the Croix now.

Me’n the pup watched a St Croix deputy try to launch their boat at Hudson this morning. Moved the barricades, drove in and proceeded to unhook and back in. He was in to the truck frame and hadn’t much more than got the bottom of the boat wet before he decided it wasn’t going to work. I’m guessing the launch is closed for a good reason jerr

What’s the likelihood that it’ll be back down below the no wake by 5/5

I’m picking my new boat up this week, and I’ll be to busy to get out until then anyway

Besides the weather is suppose to be much nicer by then

I’ve always obeyed the No Wake law and see so many who don’t. I’ve always waited for law and never see them. But yet I’ll get checked for a creel survey. I’ve called it in and been told, “There is no No Wake on the river.” So I ask why there are signs at the landing and the sheriff’s say they will look into it. Kind of hard to enforce laws you don’t know anything about.

After this afternoon’s rain I wouldn’t count on it being below No Wake on 5/5. You can watch the forecasts the next couple of days and that will give you a better idea but I’ve got a feeling the forecast is going up not down.

WOW!! I just checked the updated river forecast before going to bed and now they are predicting 685.7 feet on May 4th. They are supposed to close the Stillwater Lift Bridge when the river reaches 686 feet – with the rain forecasted the next few days we may just reach that level.

In any case, if you are launching out of the DNR Boomsite Boat Launch north of Stillwater for the opener you probably are not going to be able to get your boat under the lift bridge if you plan on fishing down towards Bayport. You better plan on fishing upstream if launching from there. All the islands are flooded and the river is completely out of its banks everywhere upstream. Better plan on a lot of debris and logs floating too.
