My grandson and I intended to visit the Allen S. King Excel Energy Plant in Bayport to check out the fishing. We got down there and the gate was locked with a sign indicating it is closed from 1 March 2014 to 1 June 2014. When the weather starts to warm up in the early spring it was always nice to have a place to shore fish until the ice goes out – looks like that won’t happen there this year.
No smoke coming out of the stack so the plant must be shut down.

You are correct. They shut the plant down on Friday at midnight and plan on being offline for quite some time.

At some point, the King plant ore docks are slated for removal as part of the bridge crossing boondoggle. Wondering if this would affect the outlet area now…and if there is any further word on the DNR launch proposed in this
project to buy off the angling vote. Am still wondering why
the power folks are shuting off their access to Eastern barge coal now that they installed expensive sulfur removal.
