St. Croix State Park…fishing?

I’m heading up camping with a few friends next weekend at St. Croix state park (MN) – and am wondering if anyone has fished that area? I’m thinking the water’s pretty shallow and may limit the opportunities to canoes & shore fishing but am not sure about that.
Are there any lakes in the area that would warrant bringing the boat up for the weekend? Are there some spots to drop the boat in on the river?
I appreciate your help…with any luck I’ll be able to get out on the water and avoid the casino!

If you can’t boat it don’t limit yourself to shore fishing.
    Wade it.

    Suzuki – you’re killin me!!!

Wading used to be my absolute favorite way to fish (nothing like seeing a bucket mouth hit a top-water at eye level) until four years ago when I had a little run-in with a semi on my motorcycle
Apparently the battery in my prosthetic doesn’t do well with water = no more wading
I’m not too upset about it though – I’ve grown out of carp fishing

Sorry about that. My fishing roots are from wading too and I still make it a point to fish that way a few times every year. Watch out for those nettles on the bank. Those things get me every time.

Hey no problem – I just thought I’d give you a hard time

I’ll keep a close eye out for those nettles, I just got over poison ivy from turkey hunting I don’t need any more run ins with the plant life.

    Have you fished that area?

It’s been a while. I use to drive up there and fish smallies before I owned a boat. Mostly around where the Snake River dumps in but I have fished by the park several years ago. Poison ivy and I go way back. I’ve had it so many times I am a pro at seeing it in the woods. I usually get a touch of it every year. So far this year I’m clean.
