I was thinking about putting some time into that particular spot last fall for eyes but never got around to it, it looks absolutely awesome for drawing in big fish fall and spring but I got to thinking about it and those spillways really might attract the gators around spawn time, do they usually stay open in the winter. Those spots are pretty small and probably sensitive to pressure so if you want to PM me id be willing to trade some knowledge.

You’re talking about fishing in the river side right?

Yes, there is an area below the dam that stays open in the winter. There is a decent hole below the dam but it also gets real shallow all around that hole. There are several people that ice fish in that area. You need to use caution because there is always open water in that area.

thanks for the replies im thinking about openwater fishing it late in winter, its nice once in a while to get some long rod fishing in the winter, ive been doing awesome the past few years on a couple pools that stay open around home on walleye, cant get a boat in and sometimes you gotta spud the shore ice and push it off, gotta love the weird looks too, i fished the last day of inland gamefish with my open water stuff in a hole under the hwy X bridge on wissota while the icefishermen watched on, caught a pile of eyes and never saw one of them catch a thing

As someone previously mentioned, it does get some open water fishing pressure; mainly in the spring, and the water around it is pretty shallow.

Could be interesting place to fish early season ‘eyes around sunset into night.
