They put a statement out on facebook saying do not go on the ice it is not safe since they broke it up. I figure they are just covering themselves to make sure there are no lawsuits. I’ll try to see if they plan to keep breaking up the ice. I kind of doubt they will be able to after this cold weather. I was on the ice a week of so ago when the boat was trying to break through. Kind of creepy watching a boat come towards you while on the ice.

Anybody have an ice update? I plan on driving a truck out from the ice road in bayport on Saturday. I know there was some ice breaking going on early in the season, is the ice in the main channel safe for vehicles now?

Probably heading out there Sat afternoon. More for something to do with a buddy than any expectation of catching fish. I hope to actually catch some eaters Sat morning someplace else.

I love it when a plan comes together. Brought home 19 gils Sat morning then went to the Croix later. Fished from 4-7 with a buddy. We cought 4 crappies with 2 being keepable and added to the gil pile. Considering what I expected it wasnt that bad.

Coolest part was driving the river. I love it when there are miles of roads out there all the way to Stillwater. Took my wife out there for a “drive” this morning. Cool vantage considering we are usually in a boat for the same ride. This is the earliest I recall there being so much travle out there. Should be around for a long time. If you get a chance its worth it just to drive the roads out there. At your own risk of course.
