Man I’m dying to fish, last time I took a little trip down the the ‘croix it looked a tad high and fast, near prescott, Can I still launch out of the bluff’s park(assuming there’s any parking ), Prescott launch looked bad, and it’s spendy $10 , hastings looked pretty closed to me I suspect there’s quite a bit of deadheads floating around? Are there many people out there other than the green carp trash fishermen?
    any pleasure boaters? TIA

We made it out in Oscoela again on saturday. The water level had to have dropped over a 1′ since last weekend. Maybe even 2′. I sure didnt expect it to come down that fast.
The most active fish we found where the white bass. They are a fun fish to catch when they school up. I must of caught close to 30 of them before 8am. Then the sun popped out and they where gone. Started out pitching with a light jig and a rubber minnow. Bring this back to the boat just under the surface. The fish where a little more spread out this morning so I then switched over to a small silver spoon to get a little more distance in my casts. They really went nuts on this. The way to find these fish right now is to look for them feeding on the surface just off of the current breaks. They are also most active very early in the morning and right before dark. After 8am I did not catch anouther white bass.
We did manage a good mixture of other fish on saturday also. Northern, a couple of eyes. 4 cats. and a boat load of rough fish. A great day on the water.

MN, it’s still high in Afton…but dropping. The Mississippi acts like a dam on the croix. The level in Afton will generally be higher than at Stillwater..because of this backing up effect…but…the smallmouth have really turned on in the Afton area. Fishing the rocky shoreline. I saw a few mayfly’s the otherday. Find a tree in the eveining with a good crop of mayfly’s and as Mike T would say…”You have found the motherload”…well, I think he would say that. Great flyfishing.

The eyes have been spotty with some days really good and otherdays well, time to fish small mouth…

All of those damn bass fisherman have left the building. I’m thinking the currant hatch of pleasure boat have made them pack their plastic worms and head out of dodge.

Good luck and hope to meet you sometime…

Great! !hanks Mike and Brian Hopefully it will come down a bit by wednesday, as of now that looks like the best day to get out there again for myself. I might even have to take the long way home tonight to check out Bluff’s ramp. I’ve been out a couple times on high water on the croix, but I never did take note of the river level before hand, to have any real idea in my head where the level is.

Was out both mornings over the weekend. We coughed up the $10 and launched at the Hastings Marina. Spendy yes, but well worth the price given the current (and current) conditions at the public launches. Especially for my solo trip Sunday morning. There are eyes and saugers to be had in the Prescott area. I found a real nice bunch of fish concentrated on a steep offshore break in an area that shall remain nameless, as I was sworn to secrecy when it was revealed to me. But we did get pick up some scattered fish lindy rigging the large flat north of the no-wake in Prescott. Minnows on the lindy rigs, of all things. If you look, you’ll find the break of which I speak. And when you find it, you won’t be there long before you’ll have your limit. I was fishless at 8:30 Sunday AM, and had 6 in the livewell headed back to Hastings by 9:45. Good luck, get out there, and let us know how you did.

Has anyone fished the drop just north of Steamboat? That was good about 15 years ago…they ought to be big by now!

I haven’t been out since last Thurs. Did pretty well though by the Kinni. Unfortunately I won’t be out this week as I’m heading to Rainy Lake Wed-Sun.

Things are great on the river for pounding shorelines. I had a pig northern on last night but lost it trying to free the hooks at boatside. Ended up losing both the fish pic and the lure of choice! Without getting a tape on it, I can’t verify it but by girth alone, I’m positive this was my biggest pike to date! Good news? Not a lamprey on it! I’ll be back to look for that gal…… hopefully I can get a second chance and get that lure removed too!

You nailed it MN-RST. What a bummer I have to go there..
I am pretty excited. Looks like the weather might hold up as well. I’ve only been there once before and the fishing was not good so hopefully this time it’s on.

Mike, take your computer…we’ll expect daily reports…

Ps I nailed a 19 lbs northern today…it’s huge! The odd thing was that it had this #5 firetiger bladed Mepps and squirrel tail dressing haning out of it mouth. Nice fish AND a nice bonus lure…..

    All in a day’s work Ken….

LOL! You can keep the lure as a reward for actually being funny today! But I’m not worried about you using it…… casting is involved and it’s not one of those “treeless” models! But……….. …..it is all in a day’s work, isn’t it? Briank….. one whole day……. one good joke……. yeah…hmmm…… that’s about right!

I shouldn’t be so hard on ya…… it’s not your fault mom dropped you twice.
