We were able to make it out yesterday for the day to do a little fishing on the St. Croix. The no-wake rule made it a great fourth to be on the river! Fishing happened to be pretty good too.

I wasn’t too sure where to start as I have yet to fish the St. Croix with the water this high. We ended up long lining small shad raps on the shallow tops of the breaks to start. Even tried pulling the boards up tight to the bushes. Both techniques put some short walleyes in the boat as well as a mixed bag of white bass, smallies, and a few massive big mouth buffalo.

After some time working the shallow tops, we quickly found that the walleyes had moved to the edge of the breaks. 20-28 feet of water with lead seemed to be the ticket. The hot color was once again fire tiger, however we did pick up a few of our bigger fish pulling a larger perch colored husky jerk. The fish seemed to be scattered so putting in some long trolling runs helped.

    Good luck and tight lines!
