Hello IDO St. Croix River forum contributors, and interested parties:

We at MnDOT and the St. Croix Crossing Project would like to ensure that everyone understands the river restrictions, and want to clear up any confusion as to how you can use the river throughout construction.

It is vital to us as the project continues, we disrupt day-to-day happenings, hobbies, and for serious anglers, your way of life, as little as possible. That is an underlining obligation that all involved on the project seek to oblige as we strive to accommodate many diverse groups with varied interests.

The areas on the map labeled “Closed River Zone” are accessible for fishing, but there will be times where equipment location and maneuvering will make access impossible.

There will also be times when though accessible, for your safety and the safety of the workers; we ask that all traffic stay out of the area.

As you can understand, this is difficult to convey in such a tiny legend on our infographic handouts, so a decision had to be made concerning what the best practices are for the situation.

We ask that boaters and anglers use common sense around the construction site; when in doubt, please avoid the construction site.

While disruption is inevitable, and unfortunate, we ask for your patience and understanding. We can be reached at our hotline: 1-855-462-7649, in person during open house events, or during our open office hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 4:30 a.m. with extended hours on Tuesday until 6:30 at our Stillwater project office located at 1862 Greeley. Please contact us with any questions and concerns.

Again, we are sorry for the inconvenience, but safety must always take precedence.

Brian Trick, Communications Coordinator, St. Croix Crossing Project, Minnesota Department of Transportation

Yeah, well, at least I know where not to go for this weekend! It was fun but I do like to eat a few fish once in a while.

I’m working on this project and will be out on one of the drill rig barges. This is my first time doing water work and let me tell you it is very hard watching guys fishing in front of you while you’re at work

I hope the bridge part goes better than the side jobs they are doing. There has been a huge lack of planning and thought put into the people who live with the mess every day.

Last fall they had trucks going up a road that is not made for that heavy of traffic and I ended up taking down my chimney because of the amount of movement in my house. Now they plan to survey houses to cover their buts but they are nearly a year late for that. I could rant on all day about DOT planning.

Glad they made an effort to tell some anglers. Wish they would make an effort to tell me what is going on so my work isn’t affected.

If someone has the time, a call could be made to the following. Please post the results here.

I hope there’s warning signs along the river.
