Blue over orange and clown works for me 10 years ago.

If your in the Afton area, go to the back side of catfish bar and troll around the first few docks. I’ve picked up some nice ones there.

Hey what kind of leader are you running on your lead? I have mine setup for 30ft leader for mille lacs I’m not sure if that’s too long for out on the croix or not?

From my experience on the Croix, no it’s not to long but you just have that much more line out

    Joel,

Its not too complicated Rapala Shad raps – firetiger color.

Your coming at the right time as the bite is just getting normal meaning a good May bite.

    Good luck,

If your going this weekend, firetiger, orangetiger with the weather. If the sun shines, blue and crome shadrap. Pretty much any rap will catch fish at different times on the croix!

I’ll be out saturday and monday, but i’m leaving the cranks at home. Need to get back to my roots and rig bait all weekend.

Rigging bait has been working better than pulling cranks as of late

I was able to make it out last night from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. I worked the shoreline from the YMCA camp to the first point upstream. Like Turk mentioned, firetiger is a great color this spring. I was able to get 12 in the boat, all on the firetiger. I was running two rods and swapping out colors left and right on the second rod. The only one that was ever hit was the firetiger. 8-12 feet of water and trolling fairly quick was the key. Another thing to note is the lure size, all of my luck came on a number 5 shadrap. Even when I went to a number 7 in firetiger I was not able to buy a bite.

This patter also holds true on other rivers. The number 5 in firetiger was the trick on Lake Pepin last weekend as well.

    Tight Lines!

Nice report and it seemed you had a great time on the water. Nice weather after the rain left us and fish in the boat.

That’s a pretty small area to be naming online.

If it helps a few people get into some fish this weekend why not!

I am sure the technique will work on many different stretches of the river right now as well.

Yea there’s only a few people that look at this site. Maybe you can take a camera and get some good shoreline shots to make sure everyone knows exactly where you are talking about?

Suzuki – you are probably floating out there already looking for the spot and the fish.

    Suzuki,
Maybe it will motivate you to get out on a weeknight.

As long as you don’t have to use the Hudson landing.
