06/03/04 The St. Croix is running high and especially full of debris north of Stillwater. The lower St. Croix has decent water clarity despite the five foot water rise associated with the recent drenching. Walleyes have moved shallower and the bite is fairly good though day to day fishing has varied, with the 8 to 16 feet of water range being productive. Livebait has been best with leeches and nightcrawlers getting the nod. A slow presentation has been best. Many of the legal walleyes that have been caught are good sized and averaging 17”s. River elevation above sea level in Stillwater, Minnesota is 681.79 and should level off.
