Be very, very quite, My 4th on the Croix is suppose to be a secret
Way thing are looking, you might want to stay North as farther South may be experiencing high water issues

Probably still be ice on the Croix in 2 weeks….just sayin…that ice is not going anywhere fast
Plus the bite on Pool 4 is really really really hot that weekend

I’m leaning towards Jessies prediction. I hope not but there’s a lot of ice out there. That being said I plan on hitting it for something like my 20th Croix opener.
Oh, wait a mintute! Turk said it would be open so we are all fine!!!
The real bummer is most of the lakes up north, and maybe not so up north, will have ice which means more pressure on Croix opener.
Hopefully the water drops it will keep most boats away from where I’m going.
Any chance we’ll be in a no wake water level or worse yet, unable to launch in Hudson?

Forecast is 680.4 feet by Monday, April 29th and it will probably be climbing. At 683 feet we go No Wake. The islands will be over their banks for sure. High water tactics for the Opener.
With all the snow we had this winter and all the recent rain and snow, I can’t believe the river isn’t much higher than it is. As of last night, it still wasn’t to the top of the ramp at the Hudson launch. I’d be surprised if the ice wasn’t out for opener on the Croix. I don’t think there is anyway the ice will be out on most northern inland waters in WI. We still had close to 24 inches on Bone Lake last weekend. No way that will be gone in 2 weeks. That probably means there will be more people on the river for opener.
Is the May 4th opener just for Wisconsin fisherman or can you fish it with a MN license ?

Season opener is for everyone.

Looking 50 50, yes I am wavering on my prediction. Although a 70 degree day this weekend would go a real long way in melting the ice.
I would be a happy camper if just Hudson was open to fish as long as I could get my boat in there. If only I knew someone in the Marina……
40° water temp in Taylor’s falls and 43° down by William O’Brian. My guess is it will open up fast.

No kidding. That ice will be off in 5 days.
60+ degress starting Friday and possible 70 on Sunday will melt it fast!!
We should be good to go next Saturday. As long as the water doesn’t come up too fast.

Took the boat out for a trial run tonight. I only went a half mile south of the interstate, but the ice appeared to be out all the way to Afton. Went up north to the rail road bridge and I couldn’t see any ice to the north either. Going through the Hudson channel I had a boat come towards me that was plowing water. I was about to tell them it was a no wake zone. Saw they had badges, so I kept my mouth shut. They went to the south side of the interstate and next thing I noticed, they came by me at full plane through the channel (no emergency lites). I guess they were above the law today.
The NPS site says the Osceola access is closed with limited parking. Just a heads up if any of you were planning on heading out from Osceola.
Im planning on driving by there this afternoon on the way over to the bungalo.
I was thinking the same thing. Typical opener weather. The one weekend I will put up with it.
Last year I stayed dry but the line of rain was just south by a few miles at the most. Atleast it’s not snowing tomorrow like it is now.
I’m waiting patiently (more so impatiently) for the rain to pass through. And then tough out the cold. Havent missed a Croix opener since we got a boat in 05! Good luck!
Same here. Looks like this afternoons weather might be a little nicer. Doesnt even look to bad now.
