Ok, I don’t want to confuse people. These pictures were taken off of Point Loma in San Diego CA last Saturday.
The Calico Bass were hitting in the kelp beds and we (my wife and I) had a blast. It was her birthday present if you recall! No real big fish…most average 1.5 to 2 lbs, but the quantity was there!
We were using Garcia 6500’s mostly, with 7′ medium action rods. For terminal tackle, it was a very simple set up…a hook and a sardine. Leaving the bail open for the sardine to swim and take line out.
The bass hide under the kelp and with a good cast that landed close to the edge of the kelp, you were almost assured a strike.
Captain Frank and First Mate David, did a great job keeping us on fish. In fact, my wife tuckered out after a while and took a little nap on the couch. I’m not sure why she didn’t use one of the two beds.
