I noticed on my last 2 trips over the rickety ‘ol Stillwater bridge that the Croix is frozen shore to shore. However, being as the trips were in the dark I’m not certain how far South the ice is. It won’t be long now and the Croix will be crazy with ice fishing activity

At least one body of water isn’t covered with over a foot of snow. It may be the only safe ice around us this winter.

Unless the storm next weekend puts a nice insulation blanket on it…..

Some safe ice is better than no ice in the area at all, Im glad its not snow buried.

We lost a 50 something year old man in the Augusta Wisconsin area (East of Eau Claire) last evening due to thin ice. He was not fishing, but was rounding up a flock of domestic waterfowl when he went through. I know the urge to get out there is really strong right now, but you gotta be extra cautious right now. On second thought, be “smart” out there.

    Bayport was open yesterday.

Today there is some ice but it froze after 4 pm last night. Might be this weekend but I am not holding my breath. It looks to be a nice start to ice with no slush near shore but past Anderson point there is a little different color of ice.

I push the limits in a lot of places but the Croix is one place I do not.

Most definitely! It seems like a lake to newbies, but there is stilll plenty of current and dangerous areas the further south or north one heads thats for sure!
