I was thinking of heading down to Prescott on Sun. or Monday and have a couple ?. Is the boat landing easy to find and how much is it? Is there a bait store close by? I was going to try some jig/minnow action. Any suggestions on where to try. Thanks

The Prescott public ramp is pretty easy to find. All you have to do is take the downtown side street that heads towards the river and turn to the left and follow the road (or what use to be the road). There is a big condo building that is under construction. Look for that and the ramp is just downstream from it. It’s a mess down there now with the road all tore up and if it rains, it’ll be real muddy. The ramp costs about $8 depending on the size of your boat. The gas station directly across from the Steam Boat Inn sells bait (crappies, fatheads, suckers, crawlers, and I think maybe leeches) and has some basic tackle.

As for fishing, most people drift and vertical jig from the bridges down past the ramp. Once the season on the St. Croix opens (next weekend) many boats will fish above the bridges in the Croix along the WI shore.

I was out this morning with my buddy but things were slow for us. We had three walleyes (17″-18″) and a smaller smallie. We missed more bites that we caught. We feed about four fish our plastic tails and had a couple get off on the way to the boat. We caught these fish in current breaks. We also tried several wingdams but didn’t have any action there which surprised me because at this flowrate I expected more fish to be on the wingdams.

    Good Luck,

    Todd,
I was in Prescott Friday morning and it Boone is right, The landing is a little tougher to get to right now. It’ll be real muddy on the way to the landing. Another option would be to put in in Hasings depending on the size of your motor, That landing is also easy to find. When you come off the bridge from the North, take an immeadiate right. Go to your 3rd. right and make another right.Go straight accross the next intersection and it takes you down along the river. Go until you can take another right and your there.( Don’t go to the one on the left, that ones for lake Rebecca. ) If you need a bait store, there’s one when you come off the bridge, Look straight ahead you’ll see stop lights, 1 block passed the lights on you left side.Hastings outdoors.By the way, Today is there Grand openning of there new store. Sign up to win a canoe.
