Anyone ever have any luck with Smallies on the Lower Kinnickinnic river? I’ve gone about 2 blocks into the the Kinnickinnic river from the Croix with no smallies. Just wondering if it’s worth still investigating or just dead water.

I say dead end. It turns into trout water pretty quickly upstream. I know where you can walk in and sometimes get eyes and smallies but its the exception rather than the rule.

Thanks Suzuki. I’m exploring new areas and any heads up is a time saver for sure.

The one fact I know is an eye bite occurs up there early. Probably spawing related. Old friend used to live near there. His kids got on it a year or two. Long walk though. I did it once and had no desire to return. Beautiful country though. The hills in the Kinni canyon are impressive. Some even deadly.

There are smallmouths in this stretch, but it is a tough bite to get on. It’s a long walk and there are not many of them…that being said, I have caught them just south of the County F bridge but no great numbers. Maybe two per year. Kinda like catching saugers and ‘eyes out of the Trimbelle

I thought you couldn’t take a boat in there at all because it was protected or something?

Usually you can fish up to the first bridge or dam up from the confluence.
