Well, I decided to hit the river Sat. morning and it was gorgeous but what I found was a very light bite that should’ve justified the use of spring bobbers but I like fish a little more agressive than that…………. cuz……… it improves my catch rate!

Anyway, I did find a couple of definite tugs and lost a couple minnows but came up empty as well. I did get to see a little “hammer handle” muskie come to the surface to say “hi” to the other world and it was fun to see that! Big or small, a muskie sighting is just so special!

Other observations were that the water wasn’t too clear but very free of the debris I usually see at this time of year. I also noticed that there is THICK schools of baitfish ALL OVER!!! I’m convinced………….. I was on fish, but with all that food…….. I think it definitely had it’s place in the slow, tough bite I experienced. I’ll be heading out again Wednesday evening to see what my creative mind can produce. Like I said, I think I’m on fish, they just need to see that “other thing” to eat……… and still be hungry enough to want it!

    More to come…………..

well ive got a slightly different story…nothing to brag about but sat about 330 was out for about 3 hrs and managed to hit a school of crappies, of 12 caught all but 2 were 12-14″ was alot of fun. What was very unusual (or lucky) is they all were so close in size.

Well, thor is on it! Last night, I broke the “skunk” status and I do believe a bobber is the way to go right now. The bite is too light for the jigging ultra-lite. I would feel “dead” weight and either hook ’em or miss ’em. With a bobber, they’d probably run with it a lot better and beef up the detectibility level. All mine were 10.5″ to 12″, caught in 8-10′ suspension of 20′ water, and all were released back into the river.

I may go again tonight, might not………… but certainly on Wednesday.

The bite only stands to get better from here on in!

Oh yeah………….. I was getting some other “bumps” so other species are warming up to a solid bite as well.

Still….once my name is next to the state record flathead….I bet there won’t be any ” ” in the emails then.

So I can put up with a little greif until then….

Did I mention I am now armed with new electronic from JollyAnn Marine….Cutting Edge electronics I might ad….

Did you sign up for the free Areobait…bait bucket yet? With the luck you had (I was going to use dumb luck..but didn’t want people to misunderstand it) last year on Pepin…you should win two even though they are only giveing away one per day.!

A little grief? Buddy………… you’ve graciously taken a LOT of grief so I suggest you hurry up on that flathead record. “Casting” season is upon us!

No, I haven’t put in for the bucket. Did I miss something? I mean, actually, I’ve got 4 now…………. do I need another one?

How long are you going to be out of town? I hate seeing you go with such a nice bite developing.

Out of curiosity, am I gonna be in the boat with you when you catch that record fish? I just wanna know if I should be handing you my rod or not. Catch ya later!

Casting season for me…ducking season for you!

I’m back in town as of this morning…and if I’m a good boy and get my work done this morning….I may…just may get out today for an hour or so.

PS Just because you’re in another boat…doesn’t mean your safe…as they say…”you can run…but you can’t hide!”

As far as the bucket…It’s a Areobait bucket. It has a built in bubbler in the bottom. No hoses or wires that you can see or get in your way. Although you’ll go through a D cell battery every two days, it’s the best bucket I’ve seen for keeping bait alive between outings. Magic Products out of WI is giving one a way per day for something like 90 days. Hey, it’s free!

I have the smaller one for around 5 years…but a mouse made a home in it over winter. The company gave me a great price on up grading to the 5 gallon pail, which I think will be better for my record catch.

    Leave a crappie for me!
