With everyone using plastic and most talking about ring worms and grubs I wanted to mention another plastic style that worked very well for me last year. I started using rubber minnows after seeing and buying the Northland mimic minnow pre rigged jig heads last year. I think it was someone on this site that recommended Creme Lure lit’l fishie minnow. I used those exclusively the latter part of last summer. Coupled with a 1/8 ounce jig they worked fantastic for smallies on the shore. They have semented bodies that swim like a real fish. I’m sure they would be good for eyes as well.

The ones I use are the grey ones that come with 1 red jig. It is amazing when a fish wont take live bait but will take a minnow knock off.
It is also good to have a few different sizes with. Sometimes that 1/4″ difference in size can make a big difference. I had days when the 1.5″ minnow was overlooked. Put a smaller one on and start taking fish.
They also come in handy when you run out of minnows or dont bring any with.

What I always carry with are the “jig-n-minnow” from falls bait co. They are out of chippewa falls, Wisc. They are not the same as what is pictured above. These baits are one color. Grey. Most days it still baffles me why a fish would even hit one.
