Just wondering what the ice situation is down there. was hoping to get on the ice over my christmas break which starts the 15th. I doubt there will be enough on the river to get out, but maybe on lakes around that area? Already been out a few times up here in bemidji on smaller lakes.
It will be a while yet. There is spotty ice from the Stillwater bridge North and open as far as I can see to the south from Hudson and Stillwater. She’s freezing over just not very fast

REALLY???? must be when I’m not around.
It’s been tough out there the past few years, I think this year is going to be good 
any small lakes got ice? Yeah red lake is going thats for sure, even heard some one drove on with a 1/2 ton, also heard a group broke off on a ice sheet. I would be up there myself but thats a decent hall for me, plus finals are going on, so not so much time to be on the ice.

There was about 8-10 ft of ice out from shore in North Hudson tonight. Not good ice, looked like it blew in today. It’s gonna be a few more weeks till were fishin thru the ice on the Croix
Tonight the river had a good skim layer of ice, lot’s of spots with open water BUT she had ice all the way across tonight…..wont be long now as long as it stays cold and the wind stays down 
2 1/2″-3″ this morning where i checked… 
atleast theres some ice, 3-4″ is walkable.
On Sunday there was a solid sheet of ice from about 300 yards South of the Bluffs up to the Kini. No idea how thick it was but the waves that were kicking up on the edge didn’t seem to be making much of an impact. Everything South of the Bluffs to Prescott was wide open shore to shore.
I wouldn’t be trusting that ice at all after this warm front
not on the croix, but smaller lakes around shouldn’t be affected too much by this warm front
As I noted on the spearing forum, Pap used to say the only ice you can trust is at the bottom of your glass…but make sure someone else is holding your truck keys! Stillwater lift bridge has not moved much for several weeks. Once again, true to the laws of physics, the St. Croix appears to be freezing from the top down.
When I drove over the Hudson bridge about 4 today it reminded me more of April than December. Heard something about rain on Wed.
saw a permanent out in bayport yesterday morning and another group fishing the WI side….
I may be wrong but you might be able to fish out of a boat in front of beanies
Yeah, they are fishing the Bayport area……..I’m gonna give it another week. 
i was out there this morning. 2 fish thats it, lots of baitfish cruising around though. 5-5.5 inches of ice everywhere i drilled, but didnt venture to far. 2 guys walked across with their shacks on the WI side. trying again tomorrow morning.
