What kind of shape is the river in lately?

It’s funny you ask Mike…I was just down there checking it out this morning.

From the I-94 bridge (that’s under construction for 6 months) you can see ice to the South starting from the first green can south of Beanies. To the North, past the train bridge there’s ice as far as I can see…a couple portables out there too.

In Afton the open water area streches about the normal no wake zone.

Sure could use a couple 50 degree days with a good thunderstorm thrown in

I drove over to the Boomsite just north of Stillwater. Looks like the main channel is open from Stillwater to the north. Where ever there is moving water it seems to be open. Still a lot of ice from the shore out to the main channel all up and along the river. We get some warm weather along with some rain and it may kick things open. Water is really low – last reading I saw for Stillwater was 675.5 feet with 675 normal.

Sounds like we’re going to get our 50’s this week and rain on Friday (possible). 13 days ago I said the St. Croix would be open in 3 weeks………… I have 8 days to be right. Uhhh…….. mmm……… might be close!

    Anyone else have any predictions?

Don’t get me started on this . This ice season has been way, way, to long. The river is open infront of my house in Afton. I’m half tempted to put the boat in this weekend, but I think i’ll hit pool 2 if I get my new windshield on( don’t ask, long story).
I’m guessing the ice should be out in 12 days, if we get the rain. Then it’s time to put the boat in and catch some crappies and white bass before the real season starts. WALLEYE FISHIN. Can’t wait to see all ya on the river this summer. Best of luck.

Eric? I thought you gave up fishing? Oh, just ice fishing!

No, I won’t ask about your windshield…but it’s not by your cell phone is it?

I the ice isn’t out by May 27 you can have all my fishing gear and my boat, because i’ll give up fishing forever.
Yes Brian, i gave up ice fishing this year to persue other hobbies which left both my cellphone, glasses, and windshield in the bottom of the St.Croix, not all in the same day though

As much as I like your boat Eric…and your Reef Runners and the St Croix rods….Kevin couldn’t stand to see you not fishing

But, you might want to be a little more careful out there…opp that’s right Warriors don’t sink!

Are you getting in on the “close to 15 inches as possable” walleye tourny? I think it’s on Mother’s day or close to it.

Hey Guy’s, For the last 12 years I can remember the ice breaking up from Stillwater and North a week either side of St. Patty’s day (March 17th) every year! Bayport is another story though with that coming a few weeks later from what I can remember.

    Ferny.
