I would be interested on the days I don’t work. Work till 6 then drive 45 min probably wouldnt work. The Tainter Menomin leaque is a really good deal gets you out competitively fishing with different people every week.
June 29, 2011 at 2:36 pm #977109I might add I’ve never fished the st croix so you would be taking my money every week. I have always wanted to this will be a good reason.
June 30, 2011 at 10:37 am #977395I will start announcing everything on this thread seeing as my good friend BK stuck it to the top of the page. (thank you BK )
The league for now will be called St.Croix Valley Walleye League OR SCVWL and will soon have a http://www.SCVWL web-site, I am hoping the web-site will be up and running by the end of next week with scoring, boundaries and rules. Rite now I am counting approx 17-18 boaters that want in on this so it filled up fast. We will be limited to 19 boats. Thank you guys and I am looking forward to meeting you all and fishing with you over the next 8 weeks
June 30, 2011 at 2:24 pm #977467Good replies guys and I think you will get something great going here. Many of these very questions we posed and had to decide on, you will have to do the same.
Just for thought, let me touch on a few points:
We decided on our format to allow as many people to participate as possible, yet keep it competitive. What we found is, those at really like to fish show up every week(which is most), and those that have commitments get there EVERY CHANCE they get! Otherwise, we would be hamstringing ourselves as a straight “team” format really cuts down on participation and does not promote new people joining.
Take this example: We view each week as its own seperate event, only the “individual” persons score carries from week to week, regardless of who he fishes with. So the two people work together as a “team” for the night, but still have an “individual” score. Think of a guy who does not own a boat, he can jump in with a different guy every week and still participate. One of our members has 3 sons, this allows him to fish with a different son every week, yet still staying very competitive every week and in the running with his individual score. This format also allows guys from out of town to fish it when they can (Jesse can relate to that one!), well as those that have commitments with their kids to slide in and have fun when they can(rain day and no baseball)—things are still very competitive since EACH week is it’s own seperate event. We welcome EVERYONE and would absolutely love to have the best pros in the world fish our league, this is not about beating up on the little guys, it’s about the grass roots of fishing, having fun, competing and promoting walleye fishing–regardless of who you are, check the ego at the door. Even though it’s penny, nickle, dime eucher stuff here, since money is involved a tight ship must be run with a firm but flexible hand.
Couple main points we keep at the forefront of every decision we make: 1) Is this decision good for the longterm of the league 2) No rules nor decision can be wishywashy—wishywashy decisions do not work-black and white works.Far as guys getting in on a “hotbite” for the night, well, wish it were that easy. We have a gentleman’s rule set up that you can not prefish the day of the event–up to 9PM the night before, bites change and the flow and weather moves fish! Believe me, guys get better every week!
Good questions guys, good luck and let us know anyway we can help!!!

Jesse,
How about making the league a muskie league? The walleye league sounds very intesting though. I’ve traditionally switched to fish muskies in early June on.
Id fish that too. Anyone know where I can get a good supply of 2 week old kittens?
July 3, 2011 at 1:21 am #978046For those of you that say you don’t know the Croix that well but are willing to fish the league here is a quick run down from this morning. I was on the water by 6am and fished till 9am. I trolled Flicker shads on leadcore in 15-28 FOW and caught a number of fish with a few keepers 16-18″ and even more short fish. I fished water on the Croix that I have never fished before and was able to scrape up these fish. Not on fire by any means but any easy way to put fish in the boat on unknown waters. The Croix has 2 main pieces of structure= Sand and Rocks. If your not catching fish on one try the other. If we dont get any more temp swings and the water temps stabilize we should be seeing a great trolling and crawler rigging bite over the course of the league.
July 3, 2011 at 2:48 am #978055I would love to be a part of the league but live far enough away that it wouldn’t work for me . I would like nothing better than to learn the Croix .
July 3, 2011 at 1:17 pm #978078Photo #1 is big fish of the day for me yesterday a 18″ eye
Photo #2 sent to me from onestout this morning and I am guessing he netted this 20″ eye trolling leadcore.
July 3, 2011 at 2:04 pm #978084I got an e-mail set up for the league, it is :
Any questions or concerns please feel free to e-mail me at the above address
Web-site should be up and running by the end of the week
July 3, 2011 at 5:53 pm #978109IC, give away all my secrets, I didn’t think anyone else would figure that out. To make matters worse I was fishing with Eric who I didn’t even think was going to be able to mkae the weekly event. Well it turns out that he may be able to make it, so he now knows my secret technique and my secret spot, or was it his to begin with, I don’t remember. It will be interesting.
July 5, 2011 at 11:26 am #9782761st night of league fishing will be Tuesday July 12th.
To all that are fishing the league could you please send me an e-mail to the above address. Thanks guys
July 5, 2011 at 10:42 pm #978455If you haven’t already received an e-mail from [email protected] or have not e-mailed me please do so if you intend to fish this years league. Thank you
July 7, 2011 at 12:56 am #978794Jeff’s post brings up something I have been thinking about. A lot of us have boats but may not have partners, we need something to get people connected. Maybe even change up partners and boats, not sure.
July 7, 2011 at 2:00 am #978812I’m willing to ride in someone’s else boat if I need to just to learn more. For me the league is more about learning than winning money. And I believe it is easier to learn with 2 people in the boat. If we have to we could swap which boats we use if we have two people with boats that join up.
July 7, 2011 at 2:01 am #978813And I checked Lake Front Park tonight and it is still closed and I’m not a good judge of how fast the water will recede, but I have my fingers crossed if we will be going out of it on Tuesday.
July 7, 2011 at 2:46 am #978828Website is up :
I still need to make a few adjustments and learn how to get pictures and sponsors banners loaded and all will be good. I would like to thank Russ (85Lund) at allwalleyes.com for all the web site help. Thanks Russ
July 7, 2011 at 2:47 am #978830Mike and Jeff,
I’ve decided to go with a team format for a few reasons, however these are all topics that can be discussed at Sunday nights pre-league meeting.

July 7, 2011 at 11:55 pm #979124It was a good night for the league, a sponsor donated 2 $100 gift certificates to be awarded to the team of the year. Things are shaping up nicely for the SCVWL. I’m looking forward to getting this thing kicked off next Tuesday. I have some great things to discuss and am coming up with ways to keep it fun for anglers from novice experience level to the pros .
I’d like to again thank SCVWL’s sponsors .
Check out all the latest league info at http://www.scvwl.com .
Looking forward to seeing you guys Sunday
