05 22 2011 I feel lucky to say my partner Scott Hale and I are as of May 21, 2011, St. Croix River Paul Koval Walleye Classic winners with a weighing bag of 32.3 pounds of walleye!

2nd Dave Hale and Mark Hedin

3rd Kenny Lundgren and Todd Jerry

4th Trevor Lundgren and Chad Freiberg

There was one particular highlight of the tournament, that nearly did not happen, and it was a series of swings and misses by both myself and of Scott. It went like this…Upon hitting the spot hit, I kept the boat at the right speed and depth, then seconds later Scott said, “bite”… waited and set the hook, “yeah it’s a good one!” then within in a breathe he had the fish come off. I set up another run and then minutes later my Limit Creek lcse83mlf rod slowly loaded up and I felt the fishes weight and set the hook, it was a snag with the tell tale two huge rod pumps of a walleyes head shakes! The within a second – bink – the fish was off. I was crushed and physically knocked down to one knee. We stuck around on this spot and then after ten minutes I heard behind me Scott say “bite” then “ good fish, this is a pig”….then the 26.5 inch tourney winner came to view, biggest of the day, and was captured in the net.

Do not ask me how I know it was, but this hog now a prisoner in the livewell for a couple hours was the same fish we both missed. I just know, this is a spot where one big one hangs out for a brief moment in time…well we lucked out as this big momma was still wanting to bite three times. What a blessing.

The award ceremony dinner and social is always great, the folks at Borderline Bar great job. The door prizes are also outstanding thanks to Kenny Lundgren and the management and organization thanks go to him as well.

Congratulations Turk The St. Croix is sure putting out some tanks this year. Those are Pool 4 weights coming out of the Croix and that is saying something. Great job on hanging in there when it didn’t go your way early. There are very few worse feelings in life than feeling the big gal come off on tourney day and to hang in there and win it says worlds about your determination. Keep putting up those kinds of weights and you might even see the old Redneck boat slipping into the St. Croix
