A few buddies and I are going camping out on some of the islands by the apple river next weekend. Looks like they’re predicting the river to be about 83.25 ft. Does anybody have any idea how that compares to the campsites north of the high bridge… err, will they be under water? Also, what’s the best place to watch river level predictions (I’m using the National Weather Service)?

    Thanks

    Mike

I’m not familiar with the islands north of the high bridge, but here is the link most people are using for river levels.

Right now the river is at 683.3 feet at the gage reading at the Stillwater Lift Bridge. The normal summer stable pool elevation is 675.5 feet so we are about 7.5 feet above normal right now.

I was up to the High Bridge today and the islands are all under water. The prediction is for the river to go down about a foot by next Thursday. In my experience the river doesn’t start to get back within its banks until right around 679 feet so we have several more weeks of high water in front of us. With the rain pattern we are in I will be surprised if you can island camp by Memorial Day on 30 May.
