Wow did the westher ever suck this morning. Fished from 6 – 11 and got wet and cold. We kept 4 nice fish (17 to 20 inchers). Took a break at Barkers in Hudson to regroup. Fished again from 1 – 5 and kept 2 more. The rain finally stopped and th wind mellowed out. 4 on crawlers, 1 minnow, 1 trolling. Strong south winds suck. Can’t wait until tomorrow. Good luck.

I didn’t feel so bad not being out there with the weather. Tomorrow the wind is supposed to really pick up from the south, I won’t be there tomorrow either. Good luck.
May 1, 2011 at 4:26 am #962231Good to see you out there this afternoon Kirk! Poor sheepshead!
We ended up boating 5 eyes this afternoon, 3 shorts, 2 keepers. My friend asked me if I ever caught northerns on the Croix. I replied rarely, if ever. Ended up eating my words, we caught at least 6 if not more. Also a nice 17″ smallie.
No sheepies today, had to be a first.
Good to be back in the boat again.

The bite seemed to shut down around noon for us, maybe they moved or no longer like what we were offering. Even in the neck down areas the wind was definitely pushing you upcurrent. Game plan was to start trolling raps and identify where the fish were holding. We had so much fun we forgot to try anything else.
May 1, 2011 at 7:32 pm #9623284 eyes, 1 keep-able. a few silvers and sheep head also. a ok day for the weather, honestly expected better. jig and a minnow for us. will probably pick up once the water temp rises.
Palerider77Posts: 630May 2, 2011 at 1:35 am #962434Got out to try the new leadcore rods today. Boated about a dozen eyes and saugers, some good keepers and some shorts. Put them all back. Leadcore trolling is a hoot! Boat control was a bit of a trick, used the big motor to push and the I-pilot to steer. Got away from the crowd, had a great day on the water.
May 2, 2011 at 2:12 pm #962551What a weekend. We were out early Sat but could only take it until about 11:30. Bite was early tapering off for us around 9:30. Two of us caught 10 eyes but only one of them a keeper. A nice one though. More than enough to feed my wife and I Sat. mmmm Sun was brutal. As one fisherman said as he motored by, it was angry! We boated about 8 with two keepers. Came in about 10. Boat control was just too much to have fun any longer.
May 2, 2011 at 2:34 pm #962563Fished from 6 – noon and 2 – 5 yesterday. It was colder yesterday but with the west wind it was more comfortable fishing if you stayed on the Mn side of the river. We boxed 6 more fish between 17 and 19 inches yesterday. We probably caught another dozen short fish. My buddy John had the catch of the weekend. He claims it was a blanket. I think it was a rug (at least 4 feet long and holding about 25 pounds of mud). My other buddy John caught an old crusty fishing pole (sorry Turk it wasn’t the one you were looking for).
May 3, 2011 at 12:51 am #962810there was an ok bite today, got a nice 20″ eye on the same jig/plastic that worked on saturday. also saw 4 get pulled in opposite of me in the two hours I was there.

LOL!
But hey SteveO and I went out yesterday for three hours and before we get in the boat he gives a dusty but new Shimano 2000 reel, I think Symetre… he says I wasn’t using it and heard you lost a rod and reel!
Christmas early. Thanks, SteveO!
