Did I miss the Walleye/Bass Opener?

I was at the boomsite landing checking out the water level on Sunday when 3 or 4 boats which were together came heading in. After all of the boats were loaded I drove past the people in the parking lot and pictures of the fish on stringers were being taken.

I then thought did I miss the opening? Those look like large/small mouth bass! Maybe a few small walleye! I did not want to get too close to confirm my eyes but some of those fish were definitely not crappies or rock bass.

I wish the DNR would have shown up to check the catch.

    regards.

That’s an interesting date you posted.

Here’s what I found on the WDNR website:

    May 7

    * General inland waters game fish opener (trout, walleye, northern pike, bass in the southern zone). Check current Wisconsin Hook and Line Fishing Regulations pamphlet for exceptions regarding specific game species and waters.

    * Catch and release only bass season opens through June 17 in the northern zone.

    Am I missing something?

I didn’t dig real deep but at a glance, their didn’t seem to be any difference between the northern zone & the southern zone when it comes to walleye.

i used to see that every year when I used to fish by the Mallileau Dam. couple calls to the TIP line ended that in a hurry. N Hudson PD was making swings thru from time to time. absolutely infuriating to see 17″ to 18″ smallies being thrown in a bucket prior to memorial day weekend. infuriating after too but it’s legal then

I sure every one of them were obeying the no wake rule as well.

I launched out of the Boomsite yesterday and saw alot of boats heading back from the high bridge area. Not one of them were obeying the no wake rule.

Joel: The St. Croix is a border water and has it’s own season regs. I haven’t searched for it in the regs but it is the Saturday closest to May 1 for eyes.

Since I’ve lived in Hudson, the bass opener on the Croix has always been Memorial weekend.

Happens every year. I see people fishing well known walleye holes, vertical jigging every year before opener.

Memorial Day weekend is correct and May 28th is the bass opener to be more specific…

WI hotline 800-847-9367 or if you want to text them it is 847-411… JJ gave you MN and I have MI if you would like it.
