Word is that nice private little ramp won’t be open by Saturday. They still have boats in front of the gate.

Wake / No Wake for Opener

Drove past the Hudson launch tonight. It is not looking good. It is higher or close to what it was last Friday. I don’t see it dropping in time to open the Hudson launch for opener.
April 27, 2011 at 3:55 pm #961190The Hudson landing still looks the same last night. I drove up to the North Hudson ferry landing too. If you are planning on launching there, you will not be able to turn around at the bottom of the hill. You will need to back your trailer down the hill. There is also only parking spots for about 6 – 7 rigs with trailers. If you don’t get one of these spots, you’ll have to deal with dropping your trailer off at home.
The cove has a nice ramp too, but very limited parking too. I’d guess about 10 spots. Tickets in Troy township are very spendy from what I’ve been told.
Beanies parking lot still looks to have water in it. It looks like they have a small raft along shore. Not sure if that is meant to help launch boats. Without their normal dock, I think Beanies is going to be a zoo Saturday morning.
This doesn’t leave alot of choices around the Hudson area. I’ve got a plan for the weekend that I will be sure to share at Borderline tomorrow night.
April 27, 2011 at 5:52 pm #961250Oh yea. The GTG crowd will be fishing Sat fo sho!!!
Not to sure about the other million guys.April 27, 2011 at 9:13 pm #961286Probably a dumb question, but what is the GTG crowd?
Plan on fishing down there all weekend, and was just trying to figure out my best plan?
April 27, 2011 at 9:28 pm #961318St Croix opener get together tomorrow night. check the post. Everyone welcome.
April 28, 2011 at 12:42 am #961373Nice, that sounds like a good time, I will do my best to be there!?
April 28, 2011 at 4:34 pm #961610Update-Bluffs may not open Sat. Will know tomorrow and post findings.
April 28, 2011 at 6:10 pm #961664As already stated, if the Bluffs opens before the weekend (hint hint) please remind everyone to take a right out of the lagoon! There’s a submerged rock jetty that you will hit if you go straight out. As mentioned, the main reason for delaying the open is safety and therefore liability on the county’s part. Spread the word and it may be open (hint hint).
April 28, 2011 at 6:17 pm #961667There’s no way for a new person to know. No way. They need to erect some permanant warning signs to at least give a guy a chance when the water is covering up the rocks and no buoys are out yet. I would think such a sign would be really easy. I would even go so far as to rally people for a small donation so we could buy one but I highly doubt the authorities would allow us to help. You think?
April 29, 2011 at 12:52 pm #961842It appears as though the 1.5″ of rain is finally draining into the Croix. The level is at 83.12 and holding, looks like it may be no wake tomorrow.
April 29, 2011 at 1:27 pm #961854Here’s MN DNR news release from yesterday…
MN DNR – St Croix nowake…at .13 feet (1.5 inches) above no-wake stage I’m holding out hope that I’ll be able to “run” the river tomorrow. I’ll have my Droid X in one hand and the tiller handle in the other.
April 29, 2011 at 2:02 pm #961867Maybe if we pulled the Afton Princess out of the water it would drop that 1.5?
May 3, 2011 at 1:32 pm #962924As of yesterday, Hudson launch is still 3/4 covered with water. Hopefully that goes down quickly so we can use it this weekend!

May 4, 2011 at 1:29 am #963114not much hope for this weekend, maybe the weekend after. How’s the new Terrova?
May 4, 2011 at 1:46 pm #963222The Terrova is awesome and the I-Pilot is insane. Best purchase I’ve made in years!
I went from a 12V 55 lb Powerdrive which was underpowered for my boat, to the 24V 80 lb Terrova with Ipilot and US2. Unbelievable difference and the features on the Terrova are mind boggling.

May 4, 2011 at 2:09 pm #963235I was out last night. Many people dont give a #*^$ and are going full speed up and down the lower section of river.
They know there are no repercussions and the likelihood of being caught is next to nothing. That pretty much says it all about the people themselves.May 4, 2011 at 3:14 pm #96326283.5 right now, looks to be way too close to call for Saturday right now, come on baby…..
buck-slayerPosts: 1499May 4, 2011 at 8:21 pm #963406No wardens out last night had at least 5 boats cruise through Hudson channel making a good wake.
May 5, 2011 at 2:24 pm #963594Drove by the Hudson launch this am and not much movement. Maybe 1-2 feet but most of the launch still underwater.
C’mon!
May 6, 2011 at 6:43 pm #963978Still no wake. Not even close. You can track here. Must be below 83 ont the graph.
http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?gage=stlm5&wfo=mpxMay 6, 2011 at 6:46 pm #963980Still no wake. Based on the chart predictions, it looks like next Tuesday before it is below 683. You could just follow everyone else and ignore it though.
May 6, 2011 at 8:41 pm #964011Be interesting to hear from one of the “wakers” reading this post describing why they do it.

riverdanPosts: 295May 7, 2011 at 2:55 am #964066I’ll be out there like clock work, launching at 4am and fishing till dark, can’t believe how many boaters blow off the no wake, I’ve even told people the river is no wake and they just don’t care, could of wrote a avg. of 5 tickets a day this week pretty sad!
May 7, 2011 at 12:19 pm #964094As of 5/7/11 the river level is at 683.30 . It looks like the river has been dropping .01 about every 2 hours and about .15 every 24 hours.
May 7, 2011 at 5:16 pm #964129Rules are to be fallowed that I understand. The shoreline must be protected above all else that I understand. Many do not care about the damage that may occur or they just do not understand that the accumulative effect of large waves hitting the shoreline damages the shoreline.
I know I’m preaching to the choir here but is it worth getting our undies in a bunch over a few inches of water over the mark set by people that undoubtedly now more about the going ons of the river system than a laymen ?
I say yes! It is the matter of respect and love for the body of water I/we treasure.
I feel better now that I got that off my chest,
