I have a GMC Acadia with the 2 rear captain’s chairs plus the fold-flat rear bench seat, for a total max capacity of 7 or probably more realistically 6.

Like you, I didn’t want to have to upsize any further. Luggage space is somewhat limited with the rear seat up, but so far that hasn’t been a problem because of storage space between the 2 captain’s chairs in the back.

    Just another option to consider.

With children, the problem is that with the absolutely massive car seats these days, a baby in a car seat takes up as much space as an adult. So a vehicle may, in theory, seat 3 across a bench, but if one or more of those is in a baby in a car seat, the situation isn’t workable.

Not sure if this was true or if it was changed in later models. The 2012 Traverse/Acadia/Enclave the 3rd row seats were not rated for child safety seats. Was told this by someone who traded theirs off for Toyota minivan. He hated the thought of getting the van but had 3 kids 4 years and younger.

I have 4 kids also, ages 6, 4, and twins almost 2. The only option in my opinion is the Ford, largest cab out there with comfortable rear seating. We have 3 car seats across the back and the oldest is in the middle up front. I do not reccomend this for long drives however. For longer drives we have a Expedition EL with captains in the middle. I have been in the explorer and other midsize suv’s, trust me you wont be happy. They are really small and cramped and with the third row in use you have almost no room in the cargo area, which as you know you really need with 4 kids.

Crappie, jerad had to mention the T word “twins”… maybe you will need a 7 or 8 seater? You might want to wait for the ultra sound before you buy something! grin

A guy I worked with ended up having octuplets (5) and already had 1 other kid and they got a Nissan Armada and were able to fit the whole family in that so that may be an option if you “need” an SUV whistling

My dad has a ’16 F-150 with bench in front. It’s more common in the XLT trim package, seems like when you go lariat and up you get the buckets in front. For a growing family which I am in the same situation I can tell you the newer f-150 has more leg room in the back seat and door space making them easier to get car seats in and out of then my 2013 f-250. Not sure about other brands because myself and my family are ford owners but you don’t lose any cab space on a crew cab when going to the 6-1/2′ box.

My wife and I actually joked about having twins before the first ultrasound with our OB doctor (who also has twins), because my father-in-law is a twin (who also has twin sisters), so yeah we joked that it was a possibility. My wife cried on the table and I drank enough beer to kill a horse a few days later.

Moral of the story, don’t joke about that, it happens. However, this is the best thing to ever happen to me. Wouldn’t change it for the world.
