Will be out the first time in a couple of weeks in the Cass Lake Walker area this weekend. Wondering where they will be in the deep basins yet or heading for the shallows?

It really depends on the lake. I know guys catching them in the bottom of basins 30’+, but last night I found the big crappie in 2-3 fow. Crazy! Seems way to early.

So when fishing them that shallow do you look for reeds sticking out of the ice or look to where you typically catch them in the Spring? How do you narrow down shallow water? Thanks…

Usually I target bigger shallow flats near deep water.

Usually this time of the year I usually just fish by the dock. It give you the best result at the end of the day “not too much noise”

I was finding a fair number of them on a flat in 7-9 fow. Light biters. Basically had to sight fish them. They’d inhale the bait and then sit there for a moment.

Had that same experience earlier this week. 7-9 fow in good weed cover, but really had to work em.
