I like my buckshot spoon, smallest one and I change the hook(treble) to a smaller glow hook-the spoon works for me cause I hole hop and it punches threw the slush.

Smallest Northland forage minnow make sure you change out the trebles because the stock ones are junk I have also been using a variety of ultra lite rippin raps and of course a plain jig with minnow

It’s interesting to me that so many use spoons and bigger jigs for crappies. I most often use something along the lines of a 4mm tungsten jig and Litta Atom Micro Nuggie.

Sometimes I have found spoons or raps to activate neutral fish, but most often I do best with a smaller presentation.

I’m the same as you curleytail. I usually just use a tungsten jig tipped with waxie or euro larva. Last weekend I was struggling to catch them, and did try a few different spoons tipped with minnows and had a tiny bit of luck. After reading this discussion, I think I may reassess my strategies and give spoons and smaller rippin raps more of a shot.

My most effective spoon to this point would be the Slender Spoon in Silver/Green, Silver/Blue, Silver/Red. Mostly in clear water lakes.

    My philosophy is:
Start with the most aggressive approach first and downsize to what the fish are willing to bite on, for that day. For the most part, if I don’t mark suspended fish, I don’t fish the hole but I do swing the transducer to see if any fish are close.

    This is my order:
Slab Rap, Rattle Type Spoon, Flutter Type Spoon, Tungsten Jig and Plastic, Tungsten Jig and Larvae.

I’ve had days when I fished a spoon all day and days when I was forced to fish a jig all day. But I’ve also had days when even the fish weren’t in agreement about what they wanted, needing to change after each fish or two because a few fish in that hole wanted a spoon and a few wanted a jig! Haven’t caught one on the slab rap yet, but one of these days I will.

Glass jigs are nice, light reflects through them better

This year I have been catching mostly on rattlin’ flyers in the metalic back colors during the day and switching to a small flyer or frosty in the red glow color after dark. I haven’t had much luck tipping with bait during the day. I use maki mino or mino heads for the day and loading with spikes in the dark. On the GOOD days I have been getting alot of action on slab and ul rippin’ raps in the metallic colors.
