Watched a tube video and they were using plain jig hooks no weight, with the 90 degree bend. They added a glow bead above the hook eye.Tied this way the bait was presented horizontally. They were on the Chippewa Flowage and was just one of the presentations they used. I thought that was pretty slick.

Glad you brought this up. My hookups with jigs are great, but when livebaitin and using typically octopus hooks or similar its not nearly as good. Obviously lots of variables there, but I have to think the hook has got something to do with it. Thought of trying some of the plain jig hooks out at one point. Hook angle is spot on it seems.

Minnow hooked thru the mouth? How is the hook rate percentage compared to hooking thru the dorsal fin?

I believe they were hooking through the mouth up through nostrils! Claim was a very high percentage were hooked in the roof of the mouth rather than the lips.

I might give that a try this weekend. I’ll report back.

The glow bead trick is as old as glow beads…very effective at times.

My confusion is what glow bead to use . ? All glow beads are not equal. Ebay/Amazon are full of choices ,Bass Pro sells Pucci by Pline . Then some are saying use the soft rubber, others are UV hard beads football shaped /round ones? Yet others claim to have the longest brightest glow out there coffee

They do this so you spend money. The green glow lasts the longest. Red glow has the shortest glow life. Size….something about the diameter of a b-b. All the glow does is attract fish towards the bait. Its up to you if you want hard plastic and round or soft and football shaped. Go snoop shops for the strings and beads for slip float knots. Those having a pale green bead, the bead will likely be a glow bead. Right size for what you need.

Don….if you’re a panfish angler don’t hide those beads as the water gets warm. There are times when water takes on some stain or silt and those little spots of glow, even simply slid down to the head of a jig can make a big difference. panfish have super good eyesight, and they can pick up faint glow in a snap. They tend to be curious fish as well and will swim right to a glowing anything.
