I would be looking at the edge of the weeds with deeper water 20-35′ close by. I’m guessing the weeds will stay up because of the clarity of the water. If the weeds lay down they will push to the deeper water. I’m not sure how many crappies you catch there and if it is all year or just the spawn period? If your able to catch them all summer long you should be able to find them in the winter. Good luck

    Clear water = night bite.

Mid winter I would try suspended over the deepest water…look for them 20-30’ down over those 75’ holes.

Up shallow during early ice on a real clear lake they’ll be spooky. I’d agree, early or late bite and you gotta be super quiet.

I’m no expert at locating fish but last year I fished a clear water deep lake like this one and did find large crappies in locations like I circled. Not huge numbers but they were all nice crappies.

    thanks guys.
have tried the deeper water during jan/feb, drilling lots of holes and not marking much suspended during the day. Moved to weed edges and 15-20′ in the evening.
Gino, I have drilled holes where you drew circles on the top part of the lake. looking with my camera, there are very little weeds until you get to the 7-10′ depth.
haven’t hit the south area much though.

We often think those deep clear lakes hold fish in deep water, deep water nearby yup, look where the weeds are thick maybe as shallow as 8′.
Night bite? Maybe, maybe not, can’t tell by looking at a map.
Keep drilling and using that camera, good luck!

Don’t sleep on the basin bite during early ice as well…….. whistling

Also look for where steep contour meets more gradual contour giving the fish an easy way up to the shallows.
