Looking at my jig supply the ones with the best sized hooks for crappie seem to be the VMC Tungsten Tubby and Pug Bugs. Seems most of my normal type tungstens have pretty small hooks. Are there any other jigs I should consider when targeting crappie with plastics?

Kenders has a large hook tungsten series that I like to use for 1.5″ fry style plastics.

X2 – Big fan of Kenders products and was happy when they came out with the large hook series. Still smaller profile with plenty of weight and a bigger hook to keep crappies hooked.

Another Kenders jig that is killer on Crappies is the Akuna Flare. Either tipped with a small crappie minnow or several euro larva. i like the 5.5MM size with the #8 hook.

I’ll check out Kenders. Thanks! I picked up a couple 5mm Majmuns today at Fleet Farm. They looked pretty decent.

I’ve always relied on plain round jig heads those from anywhere of 1/32 oz up to 1/8 oz typically. Hook size from 8 to 2 for the most part. Treble hook sizes from 12 to 8.

Kenders, Acme, and Custom Jigs & Spins have about everything you’d need.

Spent $30 on a Kenders order tonight. whistling Probably spent at least double that with Custom Jigs & Spins this winter. blush

I’ll have to check out the Acmes next time I’m at Scheel’s.

Seems you have to get into at least 4 or 5mm to get a good sized crappie hook.

I can’t say I’ve found a better hook gap than the Tungsten Toads. I seem to have a better hook up percentage on big crappie than any other jig I’ve tried.
