Found out in the middle of my trip this past week that my cranking battery is toast. Thankfully my 25 Yamaha has a rope start as well. Looking for recommendations. Don’t think I need anything too serious. On this battery:

    Electric start for the 25hp
    Nav lights
    Bilge pump
    Livewell pump
    Garmin 93sv
    One cig plug charger

Currently have an interstate marine cranking battery, 1000 amps, 335 reserve capacity.

How long did this battery last? I only ask because if you had a good experience with it and were satisfied with the longevity, I’d buy the same one.

I was going to recommend the Interstate 27M-XHD, but it only has 182 RC, so whatever model you currently have must be a beast!

It’s the 24m-xhd. I think this might be original to the boat (2008) but I just got it a couple years ago.

Had to be a typo right? The 24M-XHD is 1000a and 135rc.

Get a 31 group Interstate, think that’s the biggest

Yep sorry typo. 135 not 335!

I think the 31 would be totally overkill for a 25hp with a few accessories.

I have a size 27 in that cranking battery. I run my 75 hp 4-stroke outboard starter, lights, pumps, electronics, etc off of it. I just replaced the original that came with the boat in 2015 about a month ago. So ya, you can definitely drop down a size if you want to.

Before I read a single reply I thought:

I would put the biggest Interstate you can get in your boat.

No need on that size of motor. 27 is plenty big 24 would work fine also.

Agreed why add extra weight if your not running that much.

Anybody have any thoughts on possibly going to a dual purpose or deep cycle instead of a straight cranking battery? I don’t have a ton of accessories but I do typically spend all day on the trolling motor running and the outboard off. The 93SV stays on all the time, and (if I’m lucky) the livewell runs as well.

Is your trolling motor running off same battery?

Nope tm has a separate dedicated deep cycle up in the bow.

A dual purpose battery would work fine. It generally serves the same purpose as a cranking battery. A deep cycle battery is specifically designed for a trolling motor.

Yeah don’t over think it get an interstate 24 or bump up to 27. If it wasn’t broke before why mess around.

Probably the best bet. I figured out my current battery is 9 years old so I figure I got twice the expected life out of it
