Crankbaits, weeds, and walleyes out in South Dakota

With August knocking on the door fishing continues to be a grind out west. A lot of walleyes are coming in the early and late hours of the day. I recommend having your boat on the water before 6 am to get in on some prime crankbait casting bite windows and focusing on the later hours of the day from 8pm till sundown in the evening. Best depths have been 8 to 14fow on deeper weed edges with #7 shad raps in firetiger and hot steel, as well as green smash shads turning a few fish. Trollers have been doing well on leadcore out deeper to 20 foot running a few colors of lead with smaller baits such as # 5 shad raps on lakes such as lynn, bitter, and swan. Piyas, lynn, and swan have decent casting bites currently. I have not been out as much as I would like to but did manage to catch a few fish with my dad and others in past week pitching to 12 foot weed edge in the morning hours. Lot of pike and around as well to keep things interesting. Working a stretch here then going to try and get a few days on the water for some walleyes and maybe even chase some panfish around. Perch bite looks to get better traditionally as August turns to September. One more month of the heat fellas hang in there, – QB
