So treading carefully bought 2 husky jerks a x rap and 2 shad raps went trolling today. Well the x rap came back with a bill only. 1 husky jerk wont tune no matter what. And get this got 3 pike today and the hooks snapped off both times on the shad raps without even removing them. Not happy! lost fish time for another brand. harrumph!

Raps have had a bad rap for a while. I’ll agree with this. They are expensive, but so cheap

A while back I bought a couple of DT’s. They both failed within minutes, hitting the water at the end of the cast was all it took to break them apart. I gave Rapala the benefit of the doubt as bad batches of product do happen. Their response however was to accuse me of slapping the crankbaits against the side of the boat to remove weeds, so it was all my fault! Their customer service was actually worse than their product.

There has been quite a few times I have had a Rapala rendered useless after only 1 fish.I still have a handfull that have caught alot of fish, but I dont buy many rapalas anymore other than a selct few for use under certain cicumstances.Mostly run salmo now. They take a serious beating and I have never had a lip fall off, break off or crack like I have had happen to countless rapalas.

Funny timing on this post as I had two rapalas bend out hooks or split rings the last few days – cheap is right.

I’ve found very very few scenarios where flickershads won’t get hit just as often as shad raps. I have far too many of countless sizes of both…but the quality of the Rapalas isn’t that far ahead. I will give the shad raps the nod on paint holding up over time being superior to the flickers, but as far as hooks and the actual body of the crank holding up to pike, larger eyes trolled at speed, etc… they’re no better and maybe even worse despite being twice the price.

A few weeks ago I caught a snake pike trolling before I could get the shad rap down. That bait was nothing but a cracked bill, spindly wire where the body once was, and hooks by the time I landed it.

I can also attest to the Rapala quality. Had a new x rap and had a hard strike. Lost the fish and when I went to check the x rap the back treble hook was gone and the loop where it hooked into was broken. Had a new number 7 shad rap and was fighting a fish and then nothing. Finished reeling in and all I had left was the bill. The rest of the body was completely gone. Go figure. My older shad raps I never had a problem

I’ve had probably a half dozen rapalas lip break off just from bouncing off rocks at low speed, in the last couple years… and I rarely even use them cuz of the cost! Sad, really.

That’s funny. I’ve seen Mark Fisher, one of their Pro Staffers, slapping a weed-covered lure on the water next to his boat. I thought he was field testing the lures durability.

Welcome to the glory of corporate America. Any way or reason to charge more and any means to manufacture it cheaper – max profit before quality. Then, if a company does produce quality the price is so outrageous that very few will spend the money
