    Yeah, I’m thinking Coyote.
The inside of the legs are white-ish, they would be darker if it were a Grey Fox. IMHO

Now that I’m looking at the pic on my computer, I think you guys are right, it’s a coyote. Clearly, it’s too heavy in the middle to be a fox.

Just kind of wishful thinking as well. I wish I had some fox. I’ve got coyotes and bobcats but the last fox I saw in this area (my hunting farm) was in the 1980s. I think the coyotes and now the wolves have driven them all out.

Some areas inhabited by wolves now have increased populations of fox. Wolves chase out coyotes and coyotes chase out fox. But wolves do not chase out fox. There have been a number of studies about this dynamic in recent years. So the enemy of your enemy is now your friend, if you are a fox.

Interesting. We have a bunch of Red Fox at the cabin, see them all the time.
When my wife goes on a walk they will walk parallel to her in the woods about 20′ or so.

I also have heard this. And it makes sense. Wolves and fox don’t share as many of the same prey species and wolves and coyotes. Foxes eat almost all small to very small prey. They may share rabbits as prey but probably not much more than that.

We are seeing more fox in St. Louis County over time. Haven’t seen a coyote there for years but certainly have a lot of wolves around.
