Couple of old fellas at the landing

In 2019 wife and I were lucky enough to find a beautiful resort in Wisconsin that had seasonal RV sites available. We fell in love with it and signed up. We met a absolutely fantastic couple that winters in Texas, and has a park model at the resort. Bill and I got out to muskie fish once that year, and then the pandemic hit. They did not make it up in 2020, but they did this year.

Bill turned 87 a few weeks ago, and sadly he is not able to fish as much as he wants due to declining balance issues. Last week I worked from our camper and Bill and I were able to go out a couple times. I pulled my boat up so we could hit one of Bill’s lakes, and he was so excited to “Show me his spots”. The day we decided to go, was flat calm, and hot, so we only fished three hours, mostly drove around so I could mark spots.

After we decided to call it quits, I pulled the boat out and was getting everything put away, and on the lake we went to, they have a “Launch Monitor”, well he and Bill were old buddies. Both of them are named Bill, so there I was trying to get the boat ready, and these guys are just yapping away. Both have all their mental faculties, lake monitor Bill is 82, so here is 169 years of life experiences I am listening to, and it was fantastic. I just sat in the boat and listened to them talk about the “good ol days” for over an hour, and it was fantastic.

Some times, ya just need to listen once in a while, and that’s what I did, and I’ll never forget it. Just thought I would share the experience.

This is why I drink beer at the legion. Old timers have the best stories, they are typically brutally honest and I love it. Old time stories are my favorite

Thanks for sharing. I think we could all do a lot more listening instead of talking.

    Thanks for sharing!

I love to chat and BS. Anyone who knows me can vouch for my love to gab away. I never shy from picking an older guys or gals brain. The things they lived through and experienced are things I’ll never know without talking to them. I’ll buy the beer, they tell the stories! toast

Great story and thanks for sharing !
I use to be the young guy who loved listening to the older guys, especially if it meant I could build a motor that would whip the tar out of everything in town.
Sadly and much too quickly I am now that old guy and I still dont think I know enough.
Whats more sad is there are not enough young people around who give a rats posterior about cars, planes, tractors, how to weld, work on outboards and such.
I would give anything to find the right youngster with that drive who someday could take over the shop when I decide to retire.
