Getting itch to hit the road. Headed up later today and will be on the ice Friday and Saturday. Trying out Ballard’s for the first time. I’ll post up monday or so when we get back. I’m really hoping the Slender Spoon is the ticket because I’m the only one who has them in my group.

Very excited to get on walleye and spend time with some good buddies. I think this guy’s trip is our christmas present from our wives. That or us being away is a present to themselves devil

Pat, hope you had a fun trip! I am eagerly awaiting your report as our group is heading up there this weekend.
    How was the fishing?
did they let you drive out there?
did you catch more fish jigging or deadsticking?
    thanks

I’m back in town and with a less than stellar report. I’ll do a separate report for our first time staying at Ballards.

Fishing wise, slow is the word for the weekend. Not just for us but for pretty much everyone we talked to.

For some background we have a crew of four guys. None of which is a rookie. Although we all have a slightly different preference on how to do things which adds variety.

Friday for us was downright sad. Four fish in the bucket total. A few really small ones that went back. My personal total for the day was one fish, that’s all. When actively jigging I think I only marked five fish that showed interest and converted none.

Walked over and talked to our neighbors that shared a bomber ride with us. They were slightly ahead of us but not by much. Talked to quite a few people in the parking lot and over at Sportsman’s bar that night. All reports were the same, just damn slow.

Saturday we were in a different house. Not gangbusters but felt more like LOTW fishing. Put about 17 in the bucket and more small ones went back down the holes.

About 11am we were given an opportunity to move houses and declined. Our neighbors took that ride and came back skunked three hours later. Talked to them on our ride back in. They had a pretty tough day. One of my buddy’s talked to another party that put 2 fish in the bucket on Sunday. Just tough fishing for most everyone.

Patterns: Sorry, I don’t have any magic tips today.
On the bobbers we had to keep it very tight to the bottom to have success. No consistency on what worked to hang the bait off of. Anything that would show promise would fade shortly after. Of course ran a lot of pink and gold out of habit.

Jigging, sometimes was producing and sometimes not. Best to have at least one or two in your party to give it a shot from time to time. Only consistency was using some type of green for about 2 hours on Saturday morning. Other than that nothing was truly productive.

To close yet another super long post, company was great, beers were tasty, and can’t wait to do another trip. Maybe next time we’ll be on the hot bite.
