I recently broke the the temple where it attaches to the hinge on a 6-8 Year old pair of sunglasses. This was totally due to my error. Followed the process online for a warrant evaluation or repair cost. Just took a few pictures and sent it to then. The next day they responded back that it was fully covered under warranty. The model is no longer available so they gave me several replacement option. Actually the model was still available just not the same lens color. I made my replacement choice, they sent me a prepaid label to return the broken glasses, Once received they will mail out the replacement pair within 2-3 business days. I don’t think you can ask for better service than that. I was a little worried because I’ve seen a few post recently where some have said their customer service was not as good as it once was. This is the second time I had a issue ( Both my error ) and they took care of me without a issue. Costa are rather costly, but I will pay good money as long as I’m taken care of like this.

Not to hijack, but a cheaper option for sunglasses is Shady Rays. They too have a warranty if lost or broken. All you need to do is fill out a simple questionnaire online and pay $9 for postage and they send you a replacement pair.

I have 3 pairs and don’t have a bad thing to say about them. While not as good as my Ray Bans or other expensive brands, if you’re looking for a more inexpensive brand give them a shot.

I’ve had a pair of Ocean Waves for 16 years. About 10 years ago I lost them in North Dakota duck hunting. On the return trip 2 weeks later, I looked again and found them.
Getting my eyes checked soon and will probably need a new prescription. I plan on getting Costas this time.

If you do get the costas with prescription make sure you have costa make the prescription lenses and not some shop local. I am pretty sure only the polycarbonate lenses can be done elsewhere and all glass lenses are done by Costa. I learned the hard way because if the lenses are not costa lenses and you have issues with the sunglasses (my rubber nose pieces were coming off) they will not warranty them.
I didnt know the lenses I got were not cut at Costa themselves so to say I was a bit pissed would be a major understatement. I wasnt mad at Costa themselves but the glasses place who never told me this in the first place. I have a newer pair the the prescription glass lenses and they are amazing.

Can I ask how you’ve managed to break them in the same manner twice now? I own a pair of Costa shades and I’ve been extremely satisfied with the product. Its good to know that they stand behind their warranty with customer service should I need it.

I’ll second the Shady Rays as a viable cheaper option for sunglasses. My wife has 2 pairs of them.

I have a pair of Costa and all the soft rubber on both temples has peeled off. They kind of hurt my ears to wear for extended periods. Sounds like I should contact customer service! I wear them every day and will already by another pair

This is a long standing problem with Costas. There is a seperate thread on this meassage board that talks about it (about a year ago).

I had the same type of (rubber nose piece fell off) issue but continued to wear them without the nose piece. Last week I broke the frame on my Corbinas. I went through the Costa website to see if they were covered under warranty. They were! I dont know if it was the nose piece or broken frame but they are covering it. The good thing is that you dont have to send in your glasses in order for them to determine if they will warranty/fix your glasses. Just go through their process and send them pictures. They will notify you of next steps by email.

Gimruis – the two damaged pairs were different issues. First pair was a real old pair and there was issue with the lens coating around the frame edge. This pair I broke when I forgot I had them hanging in a strap and leaned down to pick up
A heavy box and crushed them

After I get this pair returned I’m going to see about getting a warranty evaluation on my other pair. The finish on the temples is chipping off

Thanks for posting this! I have a 3 year old pair of Permit 580g’s that the soft rubber has been letting loose. I’ve repair a couple times, but need to try the warranty route.

I’m a costa lens fan also but like others, their framing issues suck. Both pairs the rubber on the temples fall off and the nose rubber also sucks. Might try ray bans next as I’ve heard good things about their glass as well

I wore out a pair of Costas, sent them pics and they sent me a new pair. I bought some shady rays and they’re exactly what I expected. Cheap and flimsy. Returned those and bought a cheap pair of local ones to use for any yard work etc.

Update on my glasses. I sent my Corbinas in on August 3rd and just got the replacement pair, under warranty, today – 15 day turnaround. I’m happy.

I have Costas for fishing. My nose piece is about to need replaced. Something in my sweat dissolves them into a sticky film. Had same problem on my Maui Jims.

Thanks. Just ordered a pair to try. I’m a little gun shy of spending big money as I have lost two expensive pairs in the last year and a half. Before that I had a good run. Prior to losing my last Costas everything I owned was Smith. I still have two old pairs of them. I love Smith but their availability is always in question.

I’m still waiting for my replacement. They received my broken ones a little over a week ago. I was told they would ship the replacement within 3-4 days of receiving the broken one. As of yesterday they still do not show they shipped the replacement pair. The customer service person I talked with said she sent a email to get some details of the delay and someone would contact me by email with a update within 2-3 days. I’ll just have to hope that that happens.

I just got my Replacement sunglasses Yesterday. The time from them receiving the damaged ones to receiving the replacement pair took a little longer than I had hoped ( Good thing I have backup ones ) Overall I was really happy with the whole process. This is the very reason that I pay the high $ for Costa’s.

Between a buddy and myself, we both had VERY different experience with Costa’s CS and I’ve pretty much sworn off of them. On mine (forget the model #) the rubber grip material on the ear pieces started to delaminate. I sent in pictures, and was pretty much told tough luck. My buddy had a pair with the glass lenses that shattered one day ice fishing going from outside the portable to inside. Same response. Won’t buy another pair, as I’ve had much better experience with Wiley X and Smith.

That’s weird. I sent in a picture of a pair chewed up by my dogs and got a new pair for $79 or something like that, whatever the maximum repair cost was at the time.

I also had a great experience. The rubber nose piece came off two pairs of sun glasses. I contacted them to purchase replacement rubber. They do not sell that part so they warranties them. Yesterday I received two brand new pairs

Another great experience to share. 3 year old Permits with the 580g lenses. Rubber pieces were loosening and I had already re-glued them once about a year ago. Followed the warranty application process on their website and they approved them for full replacement. I didn’t even have the receipt. 19 days from application to new shades delivered. Very happy and will be giving them my business again.

Seems like with most Companies – people are either in the love them or Hate them group. I hope I continue to be in the love them group for Costa’s

I really wanted to like these. They look and feel great but after two pairs with the same problem I am done. Lenses are not clear. Or at least not neutral. They distort my vision.

Saw this post a while back and recently had an issue with my Costa Del Mar sunglasses. Probably bought them five years ago. No receipt. Yesterday followed the repair/return instructions on their website. Took three photos and explained the issue. They responded stating that they will replace my sunglasses free of charge and sent me a prepaid UPS label to ship them back to them. Really easy process and as stated previously on this string they stand behind their products.
