Looking for another factor in deciding a wheel house or skid house purchase. How much does it cost for Minnesota road license plate tabs for your wheel houses or utility trailers or snowmobile trailers to haul a skid house on the hwy? Another question is what are insurance policy cost between the two? Is a wheel house considered an rv?

I can’t remember for sure but my license tabs are around $30. My insurance is an add on at about $100/yr. I’ll see if I can come closer but that’s very close. I have $10,000 on my house.

Found it. Tabs were only $17.25.

Illinois just INCREASED licensed plate fee for my boat trailer by $100. If you buy a wheelhouse don’t move to Illinois.

    Chicago law controls that state.

….I believe there is a weight limit where it switches to a plate vs a lifetime registration sticker that is only a one time fee.

That seems reasonable enough! Hardly seems to be an issue between a skid house on a snowmobile trailer versus a wheel house as far as license plate versus permanent sticker cost.

In Minnesota you can’t buy a permanent sticker for over either 3000 or 3500#’s. Anything more uses plates and yearly tabs. I’m about 90% on that, others may know more.

It’s 3000 GVW over that license fee is based on weight and plates and tabs are required. My wheel house is under 3000GVW so I have the lifetime. The less time I have to spend at the DMV the better I like it.
