Cost of a Boat Windshield

    I posted awhile ago my windshield was knocked out driving down the interstate. I assume a rock kicked up but not sure how it happened. Here’s a picture of it…2006 Lund.

    Well, the estimate and claim just came through. Each side is $2250 and with labor the whole job is just over $5k! Can’t just replace one side. If it wasn’t insured I’d be driving around a one eyed boat. Part of the cost is it’s a 2006 and the new windshield needs to be manufactured. Blew me away at the cost….if anyone needs a driver side I’ll have a spare!

    I have a drivers side as well if anyone is in need…. like a ‘05 Lund fisherman. Insurance paid for both as it was the only option as well.

    I replaced one similar years ago on my Lund. Worked directly with Taylor Made. Seems like it was just under a grand cash. If that happened now I would be looking for boat junk yards.

    Kinda my same experience – they weren’t sure if they could find one. Lund didn’t have any stocked but Taylor Made still has the mold.

    Hope it works out for ya. My expectations weren’t high so a $75 starcraft full windshield I got off CL day after the crash actually worked out pretty good.

    I had it happen on my bowrider speed boat (1995). I didn’t have insurance. I only needed one of the sides replaced so I ended up having a plexiglass one made that turned out a lot cheaper than getting a glass one made. And you can’t even tell the difference.

    The windshield is why I tell people to get boat insurance. If for no other reason.

    Yeah, it’s not like car windshields where the volume is so high that extra windshields are stocked from years back and there are junkyards to source from. You are really lucky to find a windshield even from a year or two back in a boat model. The volume just is not there.

    Crazy both sides need to be done by if they need to make them I can understand. Could you sell the drivers side to recoup some money? Maybe the insurance company won’t allow that though…

    I would like to see insurance data of how many are replaced annually. I wonder if there’s a business opportunity supplying them. whistling

    @jamin

    I plan to sell the other side. I use State Farm and I don’t think they process many boat claims. They have been great to deal with but were utterly confused by a claim on a boat windshield. Tells me this isn’t terribly common.

    They also paid for my lower unit when I crunched something under the water on the river a couple years ago. I’ve had State Farm for probably 20 years and I’ve had 4 claims…..2 of which were on the boat.

    Hey, if you are still looking I would call Deb at Apco Plastics in Greenville SC! She does great windshields. Can duplicate just about any of them, and she can do them just by measurements if needed or send her a sample. Her name is Deb , 864-286-3710
