Corps seeks comments for its Lower Pool 4 dredged material management plan

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released a draft Environmental Assessment for its Lower Pool 4 dredged material management plan today, May 11.

The plan highlights the Corps’ navigation maintenance requirements for the next 40 years within the Mississippi River Lower Pool 4 region. This is an area between Wabasha, Minnesota, and Buffalo City, Wisconsin. On average, 40 percent of the district’s annual dredging activities occur within this stretch of the river.

This project requires a review of environmental effects under the National Environmental Policy Act. A copy of the draft EA with a finding of no significant impact was coordinated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and state resource agencies prior to posting the public notice. A final determination on the draft EA will be made following a 30-day public review period. The draft EA can be viewed and downloaded from the St. Paul District website at: http://www.mvp.usace.army.mil/Home/PublicNotices.aspx.

The public review and comment period on the draft EA ends June 9. Questions and comments concerning the project should be directed to Bob Edstrom, Corps project manager, at 651-290-5026 or [email protected]. Please address all correspondence on this project to the St. Paul District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attention: Project Management, 180 5th St. E., Suite 700, St. Paul, Minnesota 55101-1678.

The nearly 600 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, employees working at more than 40 sites in five upper-Midwest states serve the American public in the areas of environmental enhancement, navigation, flood damage reduction, water and wetlands regulation, recreation sites and disaster response. Through the St. Paul District Fiscal Year 2016 $78 million budget, nearly 1,250 non-Corps jobs were added to the regional economy as well as $120 million to the national economy. If they are dredging those areas that filled in with silt because of all the check dams they put in, it’s about time!.
That was failed experiment imo. It was supposed to make the area a duck paradise so the rice and celery crap would grow attracting more waterfowl. I don’t think the duck hunting got any better from the guys I know that hunted it.
All it did was fill in some really good fishing areas!
