Corps of Engineers host 25th annual fishing derby at Leech Lake Dam
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, invites everyone 1 to 14-years-old to participate in the 25th Annual Leech Lake Kids’ Fishing Derby, Saturday, July 18.
The derby will take place at the Leech Lake Dam and Recreation Area, 1217 Federal Dam Dr. NE, Federal Dam, MN 56641.
The event is free and will be held directly downstream of the Leech Lake Dam. Registration and activities will begin at 11 a.m., and the fishing derby will go from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will be registered under one of three age groups to compete for prizes: 1 to 4; 5 to 9; and 10 to 14. Every participant will receive a prize.
Hot dogs and pop will be served, and local merchants are providing bait. Participants will need to bring a fishing pole, and we recommend wearing a life jacket when near the water. The fishing derby will be held rain or shine but will be delayed if there is lightening in the area. For more information, please contact the park office at (218) 654-3145.
