Coronavirus supply interruptions/panic buying?

I regularly camp with friends on extended remote trips or with my family on simpler trips. Looking at the calendar I noticed that I needed to get some freeze dried food packs and a bigger gravity filter for spring excursions. I have access to some pro deals and I noticed that some of the brands had dropped out, and some of them were largely out of stock on the websites. I did some clicking on other more seemingly “prepper” sites (my patriot supply) and they were claiming that emergency food demand was up 100x and to expect 4-6 week ship times.

I placed a simple order for a filter and some food packs – hoping it arrives in time for my trips. Anyone noticed anything going on in this arena? My wife is in healthcare and thinks that there might be some drug shortages.

It’s called price gouging. If you are willing to pay it can be found.

I just bought 80# of ribeye loins (60 hand cut ribeye steaks), 16 pork butts (135# total), a couple pork loins & 4 cases of canned vegetables ….. I’m good til fall. By then, we will know if this was all just hype.

But how much bourbon do you have on hand?

I just want the stuff I need to arrive in a week or so.

the apocalypse is coming!!!! I remember when the recession hit and the lines at the gas pump went for blocks…..I drove by and laughed. I think this world is obsessed with the Zombie shows. I would be more worried about climate change than this slightly uncommon cold.

I didn’t buy anything on account of impending doom/ corona virus. I got 99 cent/lb pork butts, $1.58/lb pork loins & $3.99/lb ribeye loins.

Random thought but its slowly starting to remind me of when you could not find .22lr unless you wanted to pay $100 per brick. Hopefully it doesnt magically turn into a run on ammo.

I tried to buy dust masks for work yesterday, Grainger is backordered until at least May and Home Depots shelves are bare. Haven’t stopped by Menards or Lowes yet…

I noticed that Home Depot by me is almost completely sold out of anything filtration related. That and those big jugs of water were all gone. This, much like Bird and Swine Flu as well as SARS will pass without much affect on 99% of us here. The regular flu kills an average of 500,000 a year worldwide. This has killed what 3,000?

Check on ebay for dust masks. These are the ones you use when sanding wood or grinding concrete, and not even name brand or quality. I recall some jobs where i went through a dozen a day, and now there are people ripping off unsuspecting people for $95 + for 3 of them. The going rate 3 months ago was a 10 pack of 3m N95’s for $21.

Panic is the correct term. Those in the know have stated that filtration masks are 90% ineffective and most are worn incorrectly anyways. Most masks are designed to keep infectious germs in, not keep them out. But people are sheep, get in line.

I was just wondering if that stupidity was going to return. Any reporting sightings of fat guys squatting on buckets in front of Walmart waiting for the delivery truck?

I have to admit I did find the work gloves I like on clearance at Menards on Saturday for $3 a pair, so I non-panic-bought 5 pairs of them. Well, I mean, I did panic a little when I thought there were no large sizes left, but then I found them so panic averted. Awesome deal.

I get a feeling this is going to be bad. Especially with social media and how quickly people can learn that something is running out. Mainstream media isn’t going to help either.

Let the panic and hoarding begin.

Better stock up on aluminum foil before the conspiracy theorists use it all to make “Tin Foil Hats…”

I remember a good one from Y2K. Only need to stock up on TP to barter with because many food hoarders haven’t thought this all the way through.

People who actually need masks for work are definately gonna have problems (even though the masks essentially wont help with coronavirus).

Guns and ammo seem to be tied to politics – I dont think a virus scare would make a significant impact.

I’m just hoping I’m not overlooking any other normal use items that might get panicked.

Enough about panic buying. What about panic SELLING?

Since the Carona virus outbreak began, over 30 Americans have died after falling off of ladders. 5-10 more will have died from using electrical appliances in the bathtub or shower. Somewhere around 5 people will have died in the same period after being run over by their own motor vehicle. Lawnmower accidents will have claimed 3 more, on average.

I’m selling all of the above. You can’t be too careful.

Shouldn’t have put your theory online – everyone is beating you to it! I have been a costco member for 6 years and never seen an empty shelf, much less no wipes, tp, chicken, etc.

My wife told me that the Targets near us (North St Paul and Vadnais Heights) are out of toilet paper and water….I couldn’t believe it.

My buddy is the owner of Line Cutterz (fishing line cutters) and they are headed to the Bassmaster Classic this week and they barely have any stock because their plastic comes from China and no one is working over there. They just got deals with Triton and Skeeter boats to have their flat mounts on their boats and they’re worried they might not be able to fill those orders.
