Heading to Coronado next weekend and want to go fishing (yes I still fish) looking for a good guide recommendation.

There used to be charter boats that went out to the kelp beds. Half Day trips were very popular. These were pretty big boats that would hold a couple dozen people. I always came back with a burlap bag of fish. I would then take them out to a cleaning station on the San Diego – Ocean Beach pier. There’s a lot of benita there, they’re a=holes like pike that will eat your catch as it moves up through the water column. But the worst part is that their meat is a nasty red bloody meat.

I’ve never fished the west coast but it looks really interesting. Aside from the kelp beds, there’s very deep water within a few miles from shore, unlike Florida where you may have to drive a while. A lot of rock fish and other pelagic species that are wonderful to eat. Have fun and report back!

I looked the last time I was out there and the prices were really high compared to Florida, more than double. I decided against fishing since I was there with my wife and she wouldn’t enjoy fishing anyway.

I bet the wifey would enjoy a boat ride out to Catalina Island. There’s several fishing charters out of Catalina Island.

You’ll definitely have to check out the Hotel Del Coronado. It’s an iconic landmark you see in a lot of movies. Supposedly they built it all with wooden pegs, no nails. A lot of really nice sailboats are docked there.

Coronado used to be a very high rent area with minimal night life. However, East of the Hotel Del Coronado is where the Seal’s BUDS Training center is located. There used to be a bar on North side of the road a mile or 2 past the Hotel Del Coronado where Seals would hang out. Tons of women loved to hang out there too, hoping to get lucky. It can be a really good time as long you don’t get mouthy.

Ocean Beach was my favorite part of San Diego. It’s kind of out of the way and hard to find. There’s mainly only locals (and now homeless too). But, it had some great neighborhood biker bars. I had an apartment there for 4 years.

At least theres not much left to burn in some spots.
Might want to take a break to check your brakes after some of those hills on the way there.
If your taking a plane you can look at the plains.
