ok guys i made the decision to jump on board with the cordless drill setup. what i dont know is exactly what setup i want. i really like the chipper blades on the kdrill and have been leaning towards that. also like the clam plate to be able to better control. what do you guys recommend for a drill? i can get the milwaukee fuel m18 for $210 right now with two batteries and charger from a local dealer. just curious if there is anything better out there that i should get or at that price should i get the milwaukee. thanks

get the k-drill with the milwaukee, you won’t regret it. I wouldn’t spend my money on the clam plate. The handle keeps you in control enough.

    clam plate not needed.

    Milwaukee 2703 or 2704 (hammer)

    DeWalt 991 or 996 (hammer)

If you want a hammer drill get the second option (hammer drill is not needed just costs a bit more) they are not built better, just a myth.

4ah battery minimum the bigger the better.

    Agree with the above replies.
I prefer the DeWalt purely for how the secondary handle attaches. I think it is a stronger attachment over how the Milwaukee handle attaches.
I have 5 amp batteries for my DeWalt. I am getting about 30+ holes with a 6 inch K-drill thru 18 inches of ice.

anyone ever try to drill two holes on top of each other to create an “oval” in the ice to put your transducer down?

Yes, I have done this with my 6 inch K-drill. It works fine to drill overlapping holes.
Personally, I don’t usually do this but it can be done. If I want an extra hole for my transducer I usually just drill an extra hole just beside and NOT overlapping.

If I want a bigger hole to fish thru, then I’ll drill two or three overlapping holes.

How are the newer drills with Lithium-Ion working out? Hard to find a drill these days with NiCD, or NiMH. Heard the lithium doesn’t hold up well in the cold.

I do this a lot.Helps to keep xducer out of the way,and adds more space to land an occasional snot rocket.Mine drills it quite smoothly.

I drilled about 18 holes through 16″ of ice on maybe 1/2 charge(5amp).That was in 3 days and never warmed battery. And that is with the 1st edition fuel brushless drill.

Does the kdrill have any problems with a hammer drill? I dont know enough about drills to know if this is a dumb question.

My setup with the Dewalt is lithium and I have zero problems with cold batteries. I don’t do anything special to keep them warm either.

The hammer drill function is NOT used for driving the auger, so No, there is no problem with a hammer drill. No advantage or disadvantage either way. Biggest concern is the size of the battery used. 4amp or larger for best performance.

Anyone know who sells the kdrill the cheapest? Or what stores carry them?

The cheapest I found was Sportsman Guide 195.00 for the 6″ and free shipping at the time. I was finding it hard to even find a 6″ available to buy and that was 3 weeks ago.

Just an fyi, i think the 6″ krill is a small 6″. I’ve heard it’s 5.75? I’m tempted to get an 8″ kdrill for when my 6.3″ strikemaster is inadequate. redface
