water was 71 degrees, and the greenish tint is mostly gone. The Crappies were fairly
shallow 8 to 15 on cover. The thermocline was about 20 feet down and I saw very few suspended crappies. The magic 60 degree mark is just around the corner. I ended up
    with 15 over 9 inches.
Sure wish the dates were next to the posts so you don’nt have to check them all, I don’t
know why they changed it, I even sent a note but got no reply ???? John

John, I wasn’t trying to blow you off….I’m just not real sure what your asking..When i look at your post …all the way to the right there is a last post date…(10/03/04 12:26 AM by ecnook)and if there is a post that hasn’t been read there will be a lighted bobber to the left of each forum….

Maybe you could help this thick skulled fella understand

It’s like I used to go to forums, then to Iowa in which there was a list of lakes to choose from, beside each lake was a date of the last post. The date of the post might have been 4 months ago or just today. If I wanted quick up to date info with out going through each lake it was then possible.
The way that we do it now I have to check out each lake with a lighted bobber. You see some lakes are good summer lakes, or spring, fall lakes… Some I visit once a year, & some quite a bit more. Get my walleye drift? John H.

    Hey John

You and I exchanged a couple of mails about this.

Do you see now how those lit bobbers mean there are new posts to be read? Sure beats the heck out of having to manually remember the date of your last visit, in my mind at least… this way the website does it for you as long as you’re logged in, tells you through the lit bobber which forums have new posts (the red number on the right tells you the exact number of new posts to be read) and once you’ve read them all, the bobber goes to gray scale.

If you still have any more questions, just let us know. We won’t be going back to using dates to indicate when the last posts were read but we can at least address any questions you might have.

Well James, I’m starting to fall into the groove of the red bobbers
& red numbers and it seems to working out well.
This dag darn weather with unpredictable rains, NW 15 to 25 MPH winds, unusually
low temps… and four days off!!! I’m looking for a break in the weather to
slip up on the river, perhaps tomorrow mid day to evening. A little Walleye action…
Have you ever fished gitzits in leadheads for walleyes, I started doing the one half
ounce in black & charcheuse made by precision lures back in 1984, my personal best day
was 165 Walleyes boated. Red & white, All red, black & white, red & Chartreuse… All work well depending on the conditions. John H.

been watching for a mcbride or coralville report these past weeks. i guess its a well kept secret. two weekends ago six of us(3boats) stopped at coralville around 10am. there were several boats and duck hunters. all the boaters we talked to were catching nice crappies and many some slabs. we boated many crappies and never kept any under 10″. not sure what or if there is a limit on the lake but we kept around 20nice crappies per boat. as soon as the walleyes slow down here on the river we are going back, but not on a weekend. just thought i would share our outing with everyone.

If anyone wants to teach me how to crappie fish at Coralville, I’d be happy to tag along.

Until then, I’ll just consider that lake cursed and wait for hard water.

i have to admit it might have been a stroke of luck. it was by far the best day every on coralville without ice. we just stopped there on the way home cause we got blown off at the southern lake we spent the weekend at. fishing at mcbride on weekends is a busy busy place. have to get there way early to just get a parking place. i don’t know the lake well enough to name you places. we just fished sunken wood in 10 to 15′. hey even a blind sow will find a acorn once in awhile. today was our turn.

I think the biggest problem that I have at Coralville has nothing to do with the lake, but my other habits. Seems every fall things at the ‘ville heat up and people start having 200 fish days while I’m sitting in a tree with a pointy stick waiting out a deer. This year work’s kept me so busy I haven’t even gotten a chance to do that since opening day!

I was thinking it was time to winterize the boat this weekend, get the batteries in the basement, and call it good until safe ice. Maybe I should reconsider.

I know what u mean about sitting in the tree with the pointy stick. Too bad some of the best fishing of the year comes while i am spending every weekend in a tree. Good luck all in the woods and on the lake.

All you dang hunters, I sure feel sorry for you. It’s bad enough figuring out what species I want to pursue on the water, and what type of water, stream, river, pond, lake…let alone confusing it with deer, turkey, pheasant, grouse and field mice hunting. Gianni I can help you catch those slabs on Coralville. And I promise not to whip a 3/4 ounce spinnerbait at you again.
